Textured decorative plaster from ordinary putty by own hands

If there was a question about the decoration of the walls, we can say with certainty: the repair is close to completion. But it's too early to relax, because this is one of the most important stages, especially if the finishing is done by oneself. And here the question is not so much on the technical side, as in the aesthetic one! The options for decorating walls are endless, and everyone strives to be original in this matter, trying to translate their own ideas. Fortunately, today there is a wide choice of materials that allow us to realize the boldest ideas.

Decorative plaster made of ordinary putty, made by hand, can give the walls the most original appearance.

Plaster and putty as finishing materials

In general, plaster is a coarse coarse-grained material intended for primary wall cladding, but decorative plaster has little to do with it and can be prepared from ordinary plaster. Putty, in turn, is just the material that is used to level the walls and hide small defects. There are two types of putty:

- Start - eliminates cracks, scratches and other minor surface defects.

- Finishing - allows to make surfaces absolutely smooth. Prepares the walls for painting, wallpapering, etc.

Often decorative plaster is created with a finishing putty. This coverage looks very impressive and allows you not to resort to expensive specialist services in order to get rid of various defects. Decorative coating perfectly disguises all roughness.

Preparation for decorating

So, if you combine patience, diligence and your imagination, then the decorative plaster made from ordinary putty with your own hands will turn the walls into a work of design art.

Getting to work, you need to make sure that everything is prepared. Namely:

- materials for the preparation of decorative plaster;

- tools necessary for the execution of work;

- the surface of the walls is prepared (aligned);

- paint, if there is a desire, to give your creation a color.

Tools and textured rollers can be purchased in specialized stores, and you can use the available tools, remove the old coating of the existing roller and glue it with foam with large pores or chaotic holes in the usual foam. An interesting result can be achieved using an ordinary sponge, a brush, polyethylene, but everything in order.

Before the beginning of the finishing works it is necessary to determine not only what you want to do, but how to do it. Decorative plaster from putty recently recently used to implement the most daring ideas, but without certain skills will be difficult. But if the difficulties do not frighten, you can safely get down to business.

The aligned and cleaned surface is to be marked out, and the boundaries of the sections should be pasted with paint tape. Decoration of walls occurs gradually, a site behind a site.

Cooking mixture:

- putty, dry mixture;

- Grout for seams;

- ground (white).

Mix the putty and the primer so that the composition is consistency of sour cream. If desired, you can add to the mixture the paint of the desired shade. In order not to be mistaken with the density, first you can apply the composition to a small piece of drywall. If the mixture does not spread and is not very stiff, we can assume that the decorative plaster from ordinary putty, made by hand, is ready for application. Nothing complicated, as you can see, no.

There is also a recipe, which can be prepared decorative plaster from gypsum putty:

- 6 kg of gypsum mixture (dry);

- 2 liters of water;

- 0.2 liters of PVA glue.

Pour the gypsum mixture into water and mix using a construction mixer, until homogeneous, then add the glue and mix again. The mixture should be homogeneous and thick. To slightly change the consistency, if necessary, you can either dilute the mixture with water, or pour dry plaster.

Important! Use the composition of gypsum plaster should be for 20-30 minutes. Therefore, it is worthwhile to think over your options and how much solution you need to cook at a time.

How to make decorative plaster from ordinary putty

Unfortunately, complex textures and patterns alone, without proper preparation, can not be created, but simple reliefs can be reproduced for everyone, even though they look equally impressive and original. This will help in this decorative plaster. With your hands, usually a mortar is prepared and applied to the wall with a layer of no more than 10 mm. Then the mixture needs to be given a little time, so that it clings, and proceed with the application of the patterns.

Next, a little more detail on different methods, techniques and types of putty.

Venetian decorative plaster

From the usual putty their own hands are preparing a solution that can imitate valuable rocks of natural stones. And the walls, trimmed "Venetian", will look unforgettably beautiful, in the spirit of the Middle Ages.

Classical Venetian plaster is a mixture of sand from natural stones (quartz, marble, malachite) and slaked lime with the addition of dyes.

You can take the finished dry mixture and add it to the container with water in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Using a construction mixer, mix the mixture thoroughly. The solution must have a consistency of sour cream.

The application process is shown in the photo below.

Use Venetian plaster only on perfectly flat, dry and clean surfaces.

The filler is taken in small portions, the smears are made with a spatula. Swabs can be made sweeping and small, you can imitate any material or create a repeating pattern. Having finished the first layer, they give it a good dry out, then it is taken for the next one. The first layer becomes continuous, the subsequent, finishing, are put by a flexible spatula. The layers are slightly rubbed to prevent unevenness.

The next stage of decor creation is polishing. The main thing here is not to overdo it and smooth out only sharp projections, so as not to damage the structure. Use for this purpose a rough skin or a mesh.

Then the surface can be painted. This is a crucial stage in the creation of the Venetian attire of the walls. Apply the paint layers, and the subsequent layers must differ in their saturation from the first. Apply paint quickly to small areas. You should try to remove some of the color from the convex sections.

Completion can be a wall covering with acrylic lacquer or adding a gilding effect. But you can leave it as it is, it's a matter of taste.

The creation of Venetian plaster is not an easy task and has many nuances, but with due zeal, it is subject to everyone.

Patterns, embossing, invoices by roller

To create beautiful patterns, embossments, textures, decorative plaster from ordinary putty is also used. A roller, covered with foam rubber with large pores or steel mesh, is treated with the surface of the rendered plaster. At what point you can show your imagination: use different rollers, combine directions of movement, use textured rollers. You can create an invoice by yourself using:

- Linen cord or cord, which should be wound on the roller. It will be a smooth winding or with a lot of overlapping, to solve to the designer.

- Vegetable mesh or plastic bag. They need to be wound on the cylinder of the roller, leaving folds. Using such a tool, you can get a pattern that will not have a single repeating fragment.

- A piece of foam rubber, on which you can cut your own exclusive pattern.

Consider texture surfaces created in other ways.

Trowel decoration

Creating textured surfaces is a creative question. Using a figured or ordinary spatula and applying the solution in wide or small strokes, wave-like or arcuate movements, in a rectilinear or chaotic way, you can create a unique pattern on the walls.

Decor trowel

Also, an interesting drawing can be achieved with the help of a trowel. The first layer is applied, and then the solution is gradually distributed along the trowel and transferred to the substrate. The movements of the trowel will create an unusual surface.

Another pattern using a trowel can be obtained by simply applying it in different places and pressing a little. Chaotic nature of these movements will provide a non-repeating pattern of walls.

Bark beetle

Using a wooden or plastic tool, you can recreate yourself a common type of decoration, which is called a bark beetle and resembles wood, eaten by insects.

To do this, apply the composition to the surface of the wall and give it some time to grasp. Then take the tool and perform horizontal, vertical or circular motions.

Patterns with sponge and washcloth

The most original way decorates the walls with decorative plaster. With your hands, you can create a granular texture from the usual putty and sponge. To do this, you just have to go through the sponge on the entire surface, lightly pressing it against the wall.

Hatching

Decorate the walls can be a metal comb, "combing" the freshly applied plaster in different directions. You can get interesting "woven" patterns. The directions of movements can be both wavy, circular, and semicircular, and crosswise. The puttying is allowed to dry and clean with rags to get rid of small particles not connected with the surface. Decorated in such a way decorative plaster, made with your own hands made of ordinary putty, allows you to get patterns that are not similar to any others.

Snowball

Technique of execution is very similar to the creation of Venetian plaster. But the contrast colors are used. The darkest layer is laid first. And light tones are made nabryzgi. To simulate snowfall, the top layers are best made white.

Silk

Another simple way to create a decorative surface. Using polyethylene film, you can get a pattern that resembles a compressed silk. So:

- Firstly, with a smooth layer approximately 2 mm thick, we put the putty on the surface.

- Immediately after application, a polyethylene film is applied on the filling area (this "cloth" does not need to be smoothed, the more folds are formed, the more interesting the texture will turn out).

- Covering about a third of the surface, begin to tighten the folds, slightly twisting, so that new patterns will be formed on the putty (repeat the action until the entire wall is covered).

- Remove the film after 12-15 hours. After this, let the walls dry for a while.

- After complete drying, the surface is lightly peeled off, removing the breaking parts and smoothing out strongly protruding areas.

The next stage of the work is surface painting. Use a roller or a sponge to apply paint. A damp clean sponge removes part of the color. To remove abundant accumulations of paint in the corners, with a spatula wrapped in a clean rag, they need to be grinded. The finished surface is allowed to dry. Then to enhance the effect of "silk" apply pearl paint.

Ideas of patterns and textures

Having a good imagination and certain skills, you can create the most original patterns, very fertile in terms of creating new textures decorative plaster material from ordinary putty. Photo, video, instructions will help to cope with any difficulties. The main ways of creating original invoices are given in the article, but there are many variations.

Conclusion

It is possible to say with certainty that having patience and good imagination, decorating walls can be done independently, minimizing material expenses for repairs. On the surface of the walls you can create and implement any ideas. If there is a talent of the artist, then used decorative plaster, with his own hands made of putty, will allow to reproduce even pictures. Of course, for the embodiment of the most grandiose ideas, it is better to turn to professional decorators. But if you still decide to independently design the surface, and there is no special experience in this matter, you should practice on a small piece of drywall and then boldly accept the main decor.
