Error 1068: Can not start a child service or group

When working with the Windows operating system, users may encounter error 1068. This occurs due to the start of one of the processes, in which parameters autorun is not set, and it does not start at boot time. Often, when you try to turn on the sound, open a shared Internet connection, or create a homegroup, the user sees the following message on the screen of their device: "Error 1068: Can not start a child service or group". If there is such a problem, do not panic, because there are ways to solve it.

The first way: starting and restarting necessary services

First of all, you need to start the "Services" utility. To do this, right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select the "Manage" menu item. After that, in the left part of the window find the item "Services and applications" and double-click on the "Services" item.

Alternatively, use the "Win + R" shortcut to open the "Run" utility, type services.msc in the field, and press Enter.

In the right part of the "Services" window there is a list of all utility applications of the operating system, which can be sorted by name. Here you need to find the "Telephony" service, use the context menu to enter the properties where you want to assign it a manual start in the corresponding section, apply the changes made and run it. Then perform similar actions on:

- "Support Plug and Play Plug and Play".

- "SSTP Service".

- "Remote access automatic dispatcher".

After the startup, make sure that all the services that are just running are running. Error 1068 should disappear. If not, you can use the following methods.

The second way: checking the rights of system folders

To check the levels of access to system folders, you need to go to the root of the drive with the operating system installed, find the Windows folder in it and, using the context menu, open its properties. By opening the "Groups and Users" section of the "Security" tab, you should make sure that all three owner groups have full access rights. This can be seen in the lower right column, selecting one of the groups above.

When you see any missing full access from a group, you need to provide it, noting the corresponding item in the section of changes and applying the new settings. In order for the system to accept changes, after the access is granted, it is necessary to restart the PC. If error 1068 ("can not start a child service") is still present, you should try to fix it with the third method.

The third way: checking Logfiles

Sometimes error 1068 may occur because of the Windows Event Collector service. If a failure occurs in its operation, then the collected information ceases to be recorded in the Logfiles folder. To test its functionality, you must start Windows in safe mode. To do this, during the boot process, before the logo appears, press the F8 button on the keyboard and select the appropriate item.

After the OS starts, you need to find the Logfiles folder on the path C: \ Windows \ System32, rename it or move it to another location, and then restart the PC in normal mode. Error 1068 ("can not start a child service") should no longer appear. However, if this method did not work, then there is one more.

The fourth way: system recovery

Although this method does not always help to cope with error 1068, you can try it all the same. You need to start the System Restore utility by using the Start menu search or by opening it from the system settings and selecting a restore point where the error did not appear. After the system completes the rollback, the computer will reboot.

Eventually, when the computer issues: "Error 1068: can not start a child service or a group" - you can use the firmware utility of Microsoft Corp. Fix it to fix it, following the instructions it offers. If none of the ways to fix the error has led to success, the cardinal method - reinstalling the operating system - can help.
