"Status-6" (oceanic multi-purpose weapon system): design and purpose

"Status-6" (ocean multi-purpose system) is a project of a domestic unmanned submarine designed to deliver a deadly cargo to the enemy shore. Innovative development is a new milestone in the concept of combat operations, designed to nullify the missile defense system of the alleged enemy. An armament system using a high-power nuclear charge was mentioned, but not a "dirty bomb".

So in places on the TV flashed some blueprints, which somewhere stood out for innovative development, and somewhere for prototypes of obsolete models of weapons. What a lie, and what is true, it was not possible to find out.

Hazardous areas

In the Western press, they have already baptized a new project as a "weapon of retribution." In 2015, the BBC channel showed a report that said that Russia is creating a robotic submarine capable of transporting a nuclear charge up to 10,000 kilometers at a depth of 1,000 meters. Underwater torpedo is able to create in the water area of the supposed enemy areas that are unfavorable for life, fishing and military-economic activities.

Opinions of skeptics

The reaction of the critics was immediate. The damage from intercontinental ballistic missiles is obvious. But they start at hard-to-reach points around the planet and make their way to the territory of the enemy by air, where they are met by the ABM system.

The project "Status-6" of the ocean multi-purpose system "sneaks" to the territory of the enemy under water at a depth of about 1 kilometer. There is an opinion that it would be necessary to develop a system of orientation in such an "atmosphere", because a torpedo can crash into underwater rocks, stumble upon reefs or get lost in underwater caves.

On the other hand, it is assumed either remote control of such a system, or the import of seabed maps, which are successfully used in the operation of floating oil platforms.

Logic of defeat of the enemy

The developer of this system is CBK MT "RUBIN". Many bloggers who pretend to be experts in the military industry, tactics, and military affairs boldly rushed to assert that the news is 100% true, and to refer to alleged sources that are not subject to disclosure. The logic of using such torpedoes is to infect the ports of the alleged enemy with radioactive waste, thus depriving the opponent of the fleet and the shipping industry. Such measures, if not lead to the collapse of the economy, then they will force such to be reconsidered.

Such an assumption does not tolerate any criticism (even if the author refers to specific individuals from CDB of MT "RUBIN"). The declared power of the weapon in different sources varies from 10 to 100 megatons. For comparison: the bomb dropped on Hiroshima had only 20 kilotons, and the well-known "Kuzkina Mother", also known as "Tsar Bomb", is 58.6 megatons.

It is worth recalling that following the results of the last mentioned test, the following conclusions were made:

• The fireball from the explosion reached a radius of 4.6 km;
• The seismic wave, generated by the explosion, went around the globe three times.

The above two points are enough to understand that a weapon of retribution with a figure of 100 megaton will either put an end to all mankind, or is nothing more than an information warfare tool.

References to the T-15 project

It should be said that in the fifties there was already something like Academician Sakharov proposed. According to literature sources, torpedoes were proposed to be equipped with cobalt shells to enhance the blast wave. The idea was to produce an explosion off the coast of the United States, thus generating giant waves that could significantly damage the enemy's infrastructure.

The project was rejected because of the high cost and lack of underwater vehicles capable of transporting a charge of such a design.

Nevertheless, the damaging factors for "Status-6" suggest contamination of the territory by radiation in 1,700 km in depth, and 300 km in width, taking into account the wind speed of 26 km / h. The second factor is a colossal wave. Supposedly, such an explosion can generate a tsunami from 300 to 500 meters in height and affect a land area of 500 kilometers.

The invisible "Status-6"

The ocean multi-purpose system is moving not in vain at such a depth (1 km) - so it is more difficult to detect even with the help of a modern echolocation system. The only way out is to revive the enemy naval program of the Second World War, which involves the use of deep-seated bombs. And also the use of deep water sonars is possible, but they are capable of covering a distance in a radius of 18 kilometers.

Nevertheless, while the project is not officially presented, it is difficult to judge how the stealth technology is implemented in the new torpedo. Experts assume that, at a certain speed, Status-6 will become invisible to detection systems, and at maximum speed can successfully escape from NATO torpedoes.

The stealth technology of this product is now shrouded in mystery and consists entirely of the conjectures described above.

And also the drone is certainly equipped with communication and remote control. Although, according to another version, the route to the goal is laid before launch, then the product moves to the target autonomously.

Given that the claimed speed of about 95 km / h, the weapon of retaliation will be 5 or 6 days to move to the enemy coast. During this time, the situation in the world may change, but the "death machine" will continue to carry out its combat mission.

Western opinion

A number of American analysts have caught the subtext. After all, it was within the framework of the discussion of the US missile defense system that the information about "Status-6" surfaced. The oceanic multipurpose weapon system is a weapon to contain the program of deploying Western ABM throughout the world.

NATO even appropriated its own classification of this innovation, dubbed it the word Kanyon. According to the newspaper The Daily Mirror, "With the TATUS-6" - a weapon for a retaliatory strike, capable of restoring the balance of power in the event of the outbreak of war and shifting the scales in favor of the Russian Federation.

The popular science edition New Scientist notes that the torpedo will become an unequivocal guarantor of the destruction of the United States, as well as of humanity as a whole. This does not contradict the security concept of the Russian Federation for a number of reasons:

• The technical realization of deliveries is possible no earlier than 2029, when the project will pass all the testing stages and will officially be announced about the implementation of "Status-6";
• The oceanic multi-purpose system does not pose a threat to Russia, since the settlements are located far from the coast (which can not be said of the United States);
• Supplies to India and China do not conflict with international law unless the system carries a nuclear charge.

Alex Calvo, an expert in the field of international law, having analyzed information on the supply of a new torpedo, came to the following conclusions:

• International law prohibits uninhabited nuclear systems, but here we are talking only about those that are based on the ocean floor, "Status-6" no longer falls under this definition;
• If it is not legally proved that a new multipurpose system carries a nuclear charge, then in fact such a torpedo can use the "right of peaceful passage" to the territorial waters of another state;
• A number of countries that try to prohibit the passage of Status-6 into their waters will face another legal problem: the passage of inhabited submarines can be prohibited, but nowhere is there any question of uninhabited controlled (or autonomous) drones;
• If the US decides to strictly restrict the passage of the system into its waters, this will provoke a conflict with China, since the latter insists on the unconditional implementation by the States of international agreements on freedom of navigation.

Such as the "Status-6", weapons have historically always been considered a kind of guarantor of deterrence, rather than a weapon that is used almost every day. The very prospect of the use of such weapons by any state will entail a nuclear retaliation.

It is possible that the throwing of this information was made intentionally with the aim of engendering a reaction in the Western media and observing it in order to analyze (or simply laugh).

In conclusion, it should be noted that there is at least a minimum of reliable information about the project. The only shot from the news still does not say anything, the vast majority of information about the project is based on the opinion of Western analysts and Russian bloggers.

If all this is true, Western defense structures will have to significantly revise their systems to counteract such complexes, make corrections to a number of points of international law regarding import of weapons and the presence of foreign ships and submarines in territorial waters. And it should be done as soon as possible.

What, in general, will be in the end - it's hard to say. But only one state can have a deterrent. It is "doomed" to the appearance of another. Any action causes opposition. And for any weapon, a "shield" is being developed. And so this arms race is carried endlessly through history, generating all new intimidating weapons, threatening at one time or another to wipe out all life from the face of the earth.

One can not help recalling the frame of complete disarmament from the film "X-Men: Apocalypse", when the rockets of all countries of the world start and are released into outer space. And then they explode beyond the terrestrial atmosphere. Whether it will remain a fantasy or one day will come to life - time will tell.
