Smolensk NPP - on guard of energy security of the country

The energy leader of the northwestern region is Smolensk NPP - one of the largest nuclear power plants in Russia. Annual electricity generation exceeds planned 20099 million kW / h, which indicates the reliability of the plant.

Station power

The capacity of the three power units, each 1000 MW each, provides 8% of the electricity generation in the Central Region. Their share in the Smolensk region is overwhelming - over 80%. The factor of using the installed capacity (2010) is 79.26%. Six high-voltage lines fan out of the plant:

  • Belorussian and Bryansk with a capacity of 750 kV.
  • Mikhailovskaya and Kaluga - 500 kV each.
  • Roslavl 1 and 2 - 330 kV.

Smolensk NPP on the map

In fact, from Smolensk, the nuclear power plant with the same name is 150 km distant. It is located in the south-eastern part of the region, not far from Roslavl. City of power engineers - Desnogorsk - three kilometers from the station. The distance to the capital is 350 km, to neighboring Bryansk - 180 km.

Security

Smolensk NPP is quite safe. A well-developed technical process, competently selected personnel, strict adherence to work regulations, multistage control do their job: neither large, nor small accidents have been recorded in the plant for two decades. Full compliance with ISO 14001-2007.

Annually, large volumes of preventive planned works are carried out, designed to extend the life of the power units. The industrial all-Russian system "Rosatom" is being introduced: it started on the repair sites and in the warehouse economy, it was developed in the project "Effective office". It is aimed at improving office and management processes, eliminating existing temporary, quality, financial losses. One of the directions of the project is "Organization of workplaces of office workers on the 5C system".

The subdivisions of the SES constantly improve their work. In 2010, the station was recognized as the best NPP in Russia by the end of the year, in 2007 - the company with the best physical protection. Repeatedly the staff was recognized as the best in safety culture, environmental protection, accounting. Criteria for enterprise safety:

  • Forming the correct behavior of the staff to prevent mistakes.
  • Ensuring the integrity of defense in depth.
  • Conscious use of error prevention tools.

When implementing the human factor policy, the management of Smolensk NPP implements the following principles:

  • Elaboration of the right actions in terms of safety culture, taking into account the expectations of management.
  • Delivering staff expectations and reinforcement in the work process.
  • Observing the work of staff with subsequent feedback is the main tool for the formation of correct behavior.

Managers of all levels of the station personally demonstrate high standards of correct behavior as an example for all personnel of Smolensk NPP.

History

Smolensk NPP, whose photo looks effectively against the background of the reservoir, has been carrying on history since 1976. The first power unit was introduced on 09.12.1982, the second - on 31.05.1985, the third - on 17.01.1990. Perestroika fever prevented the construction of the originally planned fourth block.

The basic design of the RMBK-1000 power units was adopted. However, their design has been improved to improve safety. The experience of Chernobyl (reactors RMBK-1000) has proved the correctness of this position.

Recycling of radioactive waste is the most important problem of nuclear energy. In 2001, a processing complex is under construction. The liquid waste storage facility accepts RW, temporarily stores and issues the bottoms for subsequent processing.

Prospects

Smolensk NPP is approaching the threshold of operation. Already out-of-date single-circuit RBMK-1000 units are less than meet the requirements of economic efficiency. During 2020-30 the reactors are planned to be decommissioned in turn. However, Smolensk NPP is not going to hand over the position of the energy leader. The official site is pleased with the information that the competent authorities have decided to build three modern reactors instead of output capacities.

To maintain competitiveness, nuclear power requires a deep modernization. The state corporation recognizes that it is necessary to change a lot, but all at once it will not work out. Points of growth are required showing the direction for change and serving as beacons for others. One of these beacons is to become the Smolensk NPP. Having perfectly mastered the tools of the Rosatom production system, it must create a standard of high-quality, prompt execution of work with maximum economy of effort.

According to official data, on 24.01.2012 the general director of the Rosenergoatom Concern, E. Romanov, approved a long-term plan for the construction of a second nuclear power plant. The Governor of Smolensk Region A. Ostrovsky 10.10.2012 by his order gave consent to the deployment of two new power units on the territory of the region. The state corporation "Rosatom" signed an order to start the organization of works on the construction of a nuclear power plant-2. Construction is scheduled for 2016.

According to Andrey Petrov, General Director of the NPP , progress in the given tempo can be ensured by coordinated work of all project participants. A very tight schedule of forthcoming events will require the maximum concentration of the available potential and the organization of a clear interaction of specialists involved in the implementation of the project for the preparation for the construction of new power units.

At the site of the future SES-2 (the former village of Pyatidvorka, Roslavl district) Desnogorsk branch of Atomenergoproekt completes the field work on engineering surveys required for the development of project documentation.

Extended Smolensk NPP is beneficial to the Roslavl district. Large investors come, new production - new jobs.
