Single-mode optical cable is a technology behind which the future

In the process of development and globalization of computer networks, the problem arose of combining disparate local components located at distant distances from each other. Today, a single-mode optical cable is most often used to solve this problem .

Physically, this is a special flexible fiber of small diameter, made of quartz glass. Used to transmit light signals over very long distances. Transmission is carried out by reflecting a beam of light from the inside of the fiber sheath.

They are created using two main technologies. Therefore, an optical cable is single-mode and multimode. The main difference between the transmission mediums performed for these two technologies is the number of transmitted information streams (light rays).

Single-mode optical cable can provide the transmission of information over a wide bandwidth to very long distances. At the same time, such a transmission environment is not at all threatened with obsolescence, since it is already compatible with all network protocols under development or test exploitation.

For fast-growing large networks, a cable is required that is reliable and easily amenable to changes, caused by new technologies. The optical single-mode fully meets these requirements. Therefore, it is widely used in all branches of human information activities. For many objects, a single-mode optical cable is put "in reserve", since it assumes a significant increase in the necessary bandwidth. At the same time, network designers do not even think about the fact that cables of similar design may become obsolete, since it is practically impossible.

A modern single-mode optical cable, which is used for backbone network connections, has a number of different innovations that greatly simplified the process of deploying global networks. Therefore, it is necessary to know about them any self-respecting specialist in building highways.

There are several basic subspecies, into which a single-mode optical cable is divided, used for laying out buildings:

  • With fibers that are placed in a dense coating, acting as a buffer. They are very easy to install special optical connectors as needed. They can also be used inside the building. The process of manufacturing these cables is quite simple - polyvinyl chloride is applied directly to the glass fiber itself;
  • With fibers that are placed in a tube that acts as a buffer. In addition to them, a gel is poured into the tube, which prevents them from mechanically affecting one another (this prevents damage caused by the expansion of the material as the temperature rises);
  • Belt type. It is characterized by the presence of a large number of fibers and a high density of materials used.

Single-mode optical cable is selected depending on the tasks that must be solved when it is laid.
