If the hard disk is not displayed

Sometimes it happens that even yesterday a well-working computer starts to fail for no apparent reason. Especially unpleasant if the failures are connected with the storage medium - the hard drive. If a hard disk is not displayed on the system, then the owner of such a computer begins to panic as it turns out that many valuable digital data were stored by the device. Now, really, a person begins to appreciate something only when he loses.

In fact, the message that the hard drive is not displayed is not an excuse to immediately run to the computer accessories store for replacement and call the service centers, asking for information recovery. Very often, "to repair" a failed device can be done by yourself - quite a bit of free time and accuracy. Although, of course, much depends on the reason why the system does not display the hard drive.

Before we look at ways to restore efficiency, we note two important points. Sometimes on the forums you can find a message that the seagate hard drive is more reliable. Who does not know is the name of the manufacturer. Or similar: the most reliable one is a hard disk wd, or samsung, or some other one. These are completely groundless statements. No manufacturer is interested in producing low-quality goods, because this means a potential loss of confidence from buyers. And the second. If you turn on the power from the hard disk, clicks are heard (tapping, the engine is spinning and slowing), then the probability of self-recovery, alas, is low.

So, if the Disk Boot Failure message appears on the screen when the computer is turned on, then loading from such a disk is impossible. The computer simply "does not see" it. Press the Reset button on the case of the system unit and on the first screen with the image, we often press Delete (Del). So we get to the BIOS. Here in the section "Standart" we are looking for disk settings (Primary Master, etc.). We are convinced that there is no prohibition on working with the device (it should be set to Enabled).

The next step (all of which are performed when the computer's power is turned off) is to test the loops. The method of fixing modern SATA wires is much inferior to the time-tested IDE (PATA). Two plumes are connected to the disk - power from the unit and interface from the motherboard. Disconnect the second from the disk and the board and reconnect. We check the working capacity. If the positive result No, then replace the loop with a new one and check. Due to a poor-quality contact group, the electrical contact is often broken in the connector, and the disc is not displayed. Replacing the loop eliminates this problem. It is also useful to reconnect the power cable.

Also, you can connect the SATA cable to another free connector on the motherboard.

Do not forget that the best solution is to check the hard drive on another computer.

Note that sometimes problems arise when trying to connect a new drive to an old motherboard. For example, for normal operation of a hard drive larger than 2 TB, a system with UEFI support is required.
