Shut-off valve: features and scope

The shut-off valve is used on different types of pipelines, as well as on flow-through plants, plays the role of a locking device. When using it, many operations can be performed: cutting off the heater network, for example, as well as removing the secondary heat transfer, if the valve is closed. The shut-off valve may well be used with a pre-balancing system. This type of valve operates in two equally important positions - open or closed. Traditionally, it is installed on vertical and horizontal pipelines, where the working medium is sent under the plate. The shut-off valve is connected to the pipeline by means of flange connection or welding.

This kind of shut-off valves is usually recommended to install on highways, through which the process of transporting hot and cold water intended for technical purposes, air, water vapor is carried out . It is not recommended to use them for throttling, since aggressive liquids and gases are capable of exerting a destructive effect on the valve.

The bellows-type shut-off valve features a limited resource, this is due to the fact that the bellows is not designed for continuous operation. Such valves need regular inspection and prevention. Bellows valves have been able to prove themselves well in systems involved in the transport of toxic media, vacuum and corrosive media. It is important to understand that in the event of a bellows failure, it is likely that depressurization occurs with leakage of the working medium. If there is a leakage of aggressive or toxic media, this could become a threat to the ecological state of a certain area.

The shutoff valve diaphragm or hose type also has certain disadvantages. In this case, the emergence of an unpleasant situation may be due to the failure of a rubber hose or membrane. If an electric drive is used, it is required to monitor its state during the entire operational period.

The gate flanged stop valve is connected to the tank or pipeline by means of flanges. Its advantages include the possibility of repeated installation and dismantling on the pipeline, excellent sealing of joints, the convenience of tightening them, the applicability for a wide range of pressures, and greater durability. As a disadvantage noted loss of tightness due to the possibility of loosening the puff, large size and significant weight.

The shut-off valve is oriented to complete blockage of the medium flow. They are usually used where tightness of the flow overlap and reliability of operation are required.

The valve should be mounted in a convenient place, which will be sufficiently accessible for maintenance. For the convenience of adjusting the flow velocity of the medium or the heat transfer of the coolant, the valve is equipped with a special handle.

In addition to industrial plants, this kind of shut-off valve is actively used in water heating, heating and air conditioning systems.
