Sabotage: what is it and how does it happen?

One of the most terrible types of combat is an undercover attack, when the opponent does not expect an attack. Unfortunately, this dishonest device is used more and more often in ordinary peaceful life, it is called "diversion". What does this mean, can many ask? This term has several definitions, but the official interpretation is quite simple and understandable.

Definition of the term diversion

The word "diversion" of Latin origin, in Russian it is customary to interpret it as a difference or a deviation. According to official sources, sabotage is a crime of various types specified in article 281 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Such a criminal act is designed to undermine the economic state of the country and reduce its military potential. The concept itself is quite capacious and includes several varieties.

What are subversive actions?

So, it is common to distinguish the following types of sabotage:

  • On production (we mean plants, factories, whole complexes);
  • With buildings of economic purpose (the most striking example - a bridge, a dam, a tunnel, etc.);
  • Transport routes (including railways, roads, pipelines, metro, etc.) and means of communication (transport of all types, from cars to ships and airplanes);
  • Objects, designed to provide vital activity of people (warehouses, boiler rooms).

Ways to conduct them

It is also possible to classify by the method of sabotage, for example, the following types can be distinguished:

  • arson;
  • Destruction (including by explosion);
  • flooding;
  • The organization of accidents;
  • sabotage;
  • Other methods aimed at bringing down the country's economy and military security.

Characteristic features of sabotage. Its difference from other crimes

There are a number of specific features of such a crime as sabotage. What are these nuances and what is their main meaning? First and foremost, diversion is always premeditated, the person who does it, gives an account of their actions and understands what they can lead to. The very motive of such a criminal act may be different, but the goal is always the same - to disrupt stability in the economy and military security of the state. When classifying a crime, you can find many similar features of sabotage and a number of other serious offenses. So, certain similar features have the destruction of someone else's property and terrorism. The difference between terrorism and diversion is, in essence, precisely in the goal. So, the terrorist act is aimed at creating a public danger, threatening the life and activities of civilians.

Chernobyl - an accident, negligence or diversion?

Diversions in our country occur quite often. It is not always possible to prevent them, and sometimes to disclose them. Recently, in a free press, one can come across a version that a terrible accident in 1986 in the city of Chernobyl is a diversion. In fact, there are even several versions, but none of them has collected enough evidence and has not been confirmed by official bodies. So, it is assumed that the accident could be the result of the actions of a foreign spy agent or be caused by the traitor-criminal. Supporters of these versions operate on the fact that the nuclear reactor is always subjected to routine checks, and all mechanisms are running smoothly and qualitatively. In addition, it is recalled that the American spy satellite, shortly before the disaster, took photos of one of the reactors. Well, at first glance, such arguments are fully justified and believable, but many believe that this is not an accident, and not a sabotage. What is it then? Perhaps criminal negligence.

Many prominent specialists of the business from the very beginning, in the first days after the accident, stated that the reactors were designed in an inappropriate way, had a weak degree of protection, and their employees had no idea of the correct operation and possible actions under emergency conditions. Based on such information, the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is rather a pattern that should have happened sooner or later, and not at all a diversion. The terrible catastrophe that deprived people of life, shelter, health, habitual way of life, spoiled the ecology not only in the USSR, but also throughout Europe, could occur due to the lack of clear regulations and standards.

Subversion in the Soviet Union

Sabotage in Russia is not a rare thing, they occurred in the Soviet Union, but not all information reached ordinary citizens, many facts were withheld or deliberately distorted. The largest crimes of that era include the explosion on the gas pipeline "Western Siberia-Ural-Volga region". As a result of criminal actions, not only state property was destroyed, but the most terrible thing is the death of 645 peaceful people. In total, according to the American press, from 1982 to 1989 on the territory of the Soviet Union was committed 4 major sabotage, as a result of which people died. The government of the USSR, and later the Russian Federation, did not recognize and did not publicize this information.

A simple person has little to understand the meaning of the term diversion. We already know what this is, but what to do in order not to suffer in the unequal struggle between criminals and the state? Unfortunately, there is no answer to this question. It remains to hope for the operational work of law enforcement agencies and the perfection of legislative procedures in the sphere of catching and punishing criminals.
