Intellectual cinema: list to view

Recently, when films come out on the screens that are difficult to classify as real art, many of us want to see a truly intelligent movie. What is included in this concept? Speaking in general, these are pictures, the content and meaning of which you need to think for yourself. Probably, you will understand the idea of the director, and maybe you will find something of your own.

Most often in this category are the so-called art house movies. These works are known to a narrow circle of spectators, and professional critics can understand the hidden meanings. Not every art house, however, can be called intellectual. For example, the "Green elephant", as well as "Salo, or 120 days of sodom" would be wiser to call "trash" - a word meaning "slop" on the youth slang. It is unlikely that any deep sense can be found in the human genitals, feces and internals.

Intellectual cinema. List

Such films began to be shot long ago. Classics of the genre, of course, can be called, for example, Alfred Hitchcock. "Psycho", filmed in 1960, is one of the most famous films of the director. This is a story about a young girl who is tired of hiding relationships with her married lover. Full of despair, she Steals a large sum of money and leaves the city. But in the roadside motel where she stopped, not everything is quiet: the owner suffers from a split personality. Many believe that this is the best intellectual cinema, which, moreover, is at the source of the genre of "thriller."

Other excellent films by Hitchcock are "Birds", "Window to the Courtyard", "Rebecca".

The famous Italian director Federico Fellini also shot intellectual cinema. Perhaps the most famous of his paintings is "8 and a half", the main role in which played Mastroianni. This film, shot using the "stream of consciousness", is a story about a director experiencing a complex creative and spiritual crisis.

"Road", "Sweet Life", "Nights of Cabiria" are also interesting films that will make the viewer think carefully about the meaning.

In Russian cinema, too, there are many pictures, which with certainty can be defined as "intellectual cinema". A real classic was the work of Tarkovsky. The most famous of his films is "Stalker" - a free treatment of the Strugatsky book "Picnic on the Roadside". This is a story about how several people were looking for some kind of wish-fulfilling room located in a special place - the Zone. Other works by this director, such, for example, as "Mirror", "Nostalgia", "Andrei Rublev" - are also capable of turning consciousness.

Another domestic filmmaker who shoots intellectual cinema is Sokurov. His most famous works are Moloch, Alexandra, The Sun, The Russian Ark. The last picture is about our contemporary, who, being in the Hermitage, gets into the past and travels through the epochs together with another "traveler", but already from the 19th century.

Among modern films, one can mention the work of Cronenberg's "Spider" with Ralph Fiennes. You will learn the story of Dennis Flege - a man who spent 20 years in a house for the mentally ill. Returning home after the treatment, he, wandering around the back streets of his consciousness, tries to remember what caused his madness.

There is still a lot of good intellectual cinema. Such films are able to make people look at life in a different way, so you really need to watch them.
