Room cineraria - guest from the Canary Islands

Arrived to us from the Canary Islands overseas guest - room cineraria, related to astrological, immediately gained popularity among lovers of domestic plants. And it became one of the most common inhabitants of apartments. Thanks to its attractive appearance, this flower has won favor with professional florists.

With proper care, the room Cineraria, whose height does not exceed thirty centimeters, is abundant enough, numerous small bouquets, remotely similar to the familiar daisy buds. Inflorescences of the plant are baskets with a lot of simple (and sometimes semi-double) white, blue, violet, blue or dark red flowers with not a strong but very pleasant smell. The time of this colorful holiday starts from December until the end of spring.

Generally speaking, the indoor cineraria is a herbaceous plant, with large leaves of a heart-shaped shape and jagged edges. The petiole of the plant is winged.

Experts argue that the cineraria, which is difficult to care for, best feels under bright diffuse lighting. Ideal for her place will be a western or eastern light window, slightly shaded with light curtains from direct sunlight.

In the nineteenth century, room cineraria began to be widely cultivated (in fact it is a very beautifully flowering plant). Subsequently, specialists were able to deduce many varieties that are of hybrid origin.

Today, cineraria, a photo of which can be found in almost every glossy magazine for gardening and landscape design, like a riot of colors, decorating yards and lawns, is more common in apartments than in gardens. The derived hybrid varieties are much more compact, and therefore are more suitable for growing on a windowsill.

Although the indoor cineraria is perennial, however, today it is grown exclusively as an annual plant with a sufficiently long flowering period.

This beauty loves not very warm and well-ventilated rooms. Best room cineraria develops at a temperature of no higher than 18 degrees. In winter, for lush flowering seedlings are transferred for a month and a half to cooler conditions. Those who prefer to buy them already blooming, can immediately put flowers in the room (without the incubation period). In this case, you need to know that room cineraria will not be long to please with its flowers!

The plant should always be in moderate humidity. Adult seedlings consume enough water in summer. Indoor cineraria with stagnant moist soil can suffer from fungi that form in the root system. In addition, it often spoils aphids, so growing a plant on a windowsill, you need to be very careful.

Fertilize the plant in winter you need twice a month, the rest of the time you need a weekly watering with flower fertilizers.

Transplantation of cineraria is carried out only when growing it from seeds, since the discolored annual plant is no longer of interest.
