Retrovascularization of the uterus: causes and treatment

Many women face such problems as retrodeaviation of the uterus. In most cases, this pathology is detected during a routine gynecological examination. It is quite natural that patients are interested in information about the causes, symptoms and possible consequences of this disease.

What is retrodeaviation of the uterus

This pathology is found in modern medicine relatively often. It is associated with a change in the normal position of the uterus. Under the influence of various factors, her body deviates to the intestine, and the neck - to the bladder, and as a result, between them forms a bend backward.

It is worth noting that such a pathological shift is often congenital, less common in childhood and adolescence. In adult women, uncharacteristic bending of the uterus may also form , but this is considered a rarity, and may be associated with pregnancy or childbirth.

The main varieties of the disease and their causes

Immediately it is worth noting that retrodeaviation of the uterus can be mobile (despite irregular bending, the body of the uterus remains mobile and retains its physiological characteristics) or fixed (incorrect bending is formed as a result of the formation of adhesions between different parts of the reproductive system, thereby fixing the uterus in a certain position ).

The mobile form of retrodeviation, as a rule, develops as a result of weakening of the muscles of the suspender (they do not keep the uterus in the required position). In this case, the muscles of the pelvic floor retain tone, because otherwise there would be a fall of the organ.

The development of pathology is often associated with the genetic characteristics of the structure of the reproductive system, for example, a long conical cervix of the uterus or congenital shortness of the posterior wall of the vagina.

In childhood, the bend can be formed with constant physical exertion and heavy work of the adolescent. In adult women, pathology is often associated with pregnancy and the course of the birth process.

As for fixed retrodeviation, its appearance in most cases is associated with an inflammatory process in the pelvic organs.

What are the symptoms of pathology?

In most cases, pathology does not appear at all and is diagnosed completely by accident. On the other hand, some women still have some signs of retrodevelopment of the uterus. What are these symptoms? Naturally, the deterioration is associated with the work of the reproductive system:

  1. Some patients report irregularities in the menstrual cycle.
  2. Allocations during menstruation may be too abundant or, conversely, too meager.
  3. Sometimes, because of strong bending of the cervix, menstrual blood begins to accumulate in the cavities of the reproductive system, which is accompanied by severe soreness and the appearance of an extremely unpleasant odor.
  4. Other symptoms include traumatic pains in the lower abdomen, sometimes in the lower back.
  5. The disease affects the quality of sexual life - often a decrease in libido, anorgasmia.

The clinical picture looks completely different for fixed forms of pathology, against the backdrop of the inflammatory process:

  1. Patients with this diagnosis are more likely to complain of severe pain.
  2. Symptoms include fever, the appearance of uncharacteristic vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor, and sometimes impurities of pus.
  3. Some women report soreness during intercourse.

Methods of diagnosing the disease

A standard gynecological examination is sufficient to detect such a deviation as retrodeaviation of the uterus. Moreover, an experienced physician can immediately tell whether the bend refers to a movable or fixed type.

Of course, further studies are being conducted. For example, the delivery of standard tests (blood, urine, smears from the vagina) helps to establish the presence of an inflammatory process. Sometimes an ultrasound is performed or colposcopy, especially if there is a suspicion of a tumor.

Retrovodia of the uterus: treatment

Unfortunately, there is no single scheme for eliminating this pathology. The choice of therapy largely depends on the cause of the bending of the uterus, its shape, the presence of concomitant diseases. A slight change in the position of the body of the uterus (especially if it is a mobile type) may not require treatment at all. Sometimes the doctor recommends only proper nutrition, special gymnastics and regular examinations. Quite often, the bend aligns itself during pregnancy.

On the other hand, sometimes a gynecologist recommends orthopedic treatment. First, bend is corrected, after which a special pessary (made of brass and rubber or harder rubber) is inserted inside. This device is located partly in the posterior arch of the uterus, partly in the vagina, thus supporting the cervix in the desired position. Every month (sometimes and more often) the patient should come to a routine check. During the examination, the pessary is changed to a new one, and the doctor notes the changes that have appeared in the anatomy of the reproductive system.

The treatment scheme looks quite different if the pathologies are fixed. Retrovariation of the uterus in this form indicates the presence of an inflammatory process and the formation of adhesions, and therefore wearing pessaries not only does not help, but worsen the situation. For the beginning, an anti-inflammatory, and if necessary, antibiotic treatment is carried out. After the focus of inflammation was removed, women are prescribed physiotherapy, including diathermy, iontophoresis, mud therapy, gynecological massage , etc.

In the most severe cases, surgical intervention is necessary to eliminate bending. As a rule, the procedure is performed through small punctures in the abdominal wall - a cavity operation in this case is not required.

Retroveaviation and pregnancy

There is an opinion that retrodeaviation of the body of the uterus is an obstacle to pregnancy. This is not entirely true, because much depends on the form of pathology and the general condition of the patient. According to statistics, most women with mobile retrodeviation are fully capable of fertilization. Moreover, in many of them the position of the uterus straightens itself by the fourth month of pregnancy.

On the other hand, too strong a bend, the presence of adhesions, foci of chronic inflammation sometimes lead to infertility or miscarriages. Provide for the consequences of bending the uterus is simply impossible.
