Protection of the back in the motorbike: which one to choose?

A motorcycle jacket is the main part of any motorcyclist's outfit, and although attention to detail is also important, do not forget about the most basic. Perhaps we can agree that a few dozen years ago, bikers dissected the expanses of roads on heavy "choppers", and they did not need anything, except for leather coho. But in our time, it's not the road traffic at all, and the speeds have increased significantly, and with it the level of equipment should increase.

Despite the fact that the protection for the back in the motorbike appeared relatively recently, as well as the breast protection plates, it is now an integral part of the wear of the sportsbike owner.

Appointment

Protection for the back and chest in its kind is similar to armor. By the way, it is used not only by motorcyclists, but also by sportsmen, such as snowboarders, skiers and even bicyclists. Protection protects against injuries in the event of an accident and gives a feeling of calm when driving: this allows the driver to cope with many of the fears associated with riding. A great benefit will bring newcomers and not only because it will save from a number of injuries, but also because of the psychological aspect, because many of the subtleties of driving can be learned only at speed.

Who else will benefit from protection for the back? In a motorbike amateur cross-bike she must enter necessarily. In motocross, you can not only increase your physical performance (after all, driving moto in off-road conditions is not the same as merging with a sportbike to dissect on ideal asphalt), but also really learn how to fly in direct and figurative senses. And since the fall in this sport is a simple matter, it is worthwhile to acquire a good "equipe".

Back protection

A special piece can be inserted into the modern model's motorbike. This is a polyurethane shell, which is put in place of foam rubber linings on the back, which almost from anything do not protect. This is the so-called built-in back protection. In the IXS motorbike, you can add protection for prices that are very acceptable for most motorcyclists, starting from two thousand rubles.

There is another kind - it's a separate protection for the back. It is not built into the motor-jacket, which can be judged from the title. There are straps in it, and it is put on top of the jacket.

Gladiatorly

There are more "heavy" armor for all motorcyclists, but especially this, of course, motocross. It's about the so-called shells and turtles. These types of equipment protect not only the back, but also the chest, shoulders and elbows (in the case of the "turtle"). The difference between them may not be clear at first glance, but in reality everything is simple. "Shell" is a monolithic protection for the back. In a motorbike, of course, this is not built-in, it is put on top of it, like a separate protection. "Shell" provides protection of the back, waist and chest.

"Turtle" is more like a composite armor. It also protects both the back and the chest, and in addition has plates that ensure the safety of the shoulders and elbows (in case of "shell" they need to be bought separately). "Turtle" is not a complete system, but it has a lot of straps and fasteners, which allows you to adjust it so that the fit to the body is as tight as possible, which is the most important thing.

What to choose?

So, if you have decided that an integral defense, such as "shell" or "turtle", you need nothing more than just a polyurethane foam back, the first question that will arise is whether it should be a separate or embedded ?

Both of them, perhaps, are similar to each other, like "shell" and "tortoise", but there are nuances, and one can not say unequivocally what is better. Each motorcyclist must choose the appropriate option, based on their preferences.

So, both separate and built-in protection have both a number of disadvantages and advantages, and similar features. First, in both cases, the back will strongly perspire. It would seem that built-in protection should be free from this drawback, but in practice a polyurethane foam plate that heats up in the sun and does not allow air to pass at all, collects condensate no less than a solid one. Secondly, if we talk about carrying them in our hands, it may also seem that the built-in protection for the back is more convenient. In a motorbike you can, for example, shove only one hand and leave it hanging on the shoulder. However, the same can be done with a separate protection.

Main differences

Perhaps you can start with the price. The built-in plate is not much, but cheaper. Also, its advantage is that it is not necessary to wear, and therefore, to put on / remove an additional detail of the equipment. If necessary, you can also take a backpack, which will be very problematic if you have a separate back protection. In the motorbike Alpinestars, IXS or any other company, you can easily add this extra detail without any harm to the appearance.

Removable protection in the form of a plate on the straps always fits more tightly, which is the most important thing. After all, what is the use of it, if at the right moment, during a strike or slip on the asphalt, the plate will shift or even fly off? In addition, as a rule, a separate protection has an area larger than the built-in, it also grabs the lower back.

About weather and equipment change

The issue of security is considered, now there is one more issue on the agenda - practicality. It will not come as a surprise to anyone that everyone who has been riding a bike for more than a year already has several sets of equipment. Sometimes it is connected simply with the passage of time: a person studies his needs better and gradually collects a new "equip". And one day the question arises, what should be the protection for the back?

In a motorcycle jacket of almost any sample, to establish it is not a problem, but if the jackets are several, it becomes very expensive. But a separate defense can have only one and put it on top of any other basic outfit, no matter what material it is. This can not boast of any built-in back protection in the motorbike. With Velcro, if it is available, and it becomes even easier: as a rule, the velcro closure serves for an additional strapping on the belt.

About us

Now a lot of different companies are engaged in the manufacture of equipment. They compete among themselves, trying to hit the buyer with new production technologies, materials, design, and motorcyclists is only to the benefit of: it is always good to have a wide choice. However, in view of this competition, it often happens that parts of the equipment of different firms are not complementary to each other. This is also built-in back protection.

In the Spyke snowboard, it is rarely possible to insert a plate from, for example, IXS and vice versa. Thus, if a motorcyclist buys equipment from one company, then the parts for its upgrade are also the easiest to buy from the same manufacturer. This should be taken into account, because the prices for the same product may vary. For example, the protection of the back in the Dainese motorbike will cost at least 4,000 rubles, which is to say about ergonomic models of individual plates, the price of which reaches 10-15 thousand.
