Fluid in the knee joint: treatment and symptoms.

In the human body, the largest joint is the knee. It's no secret that when walking on a knee , the entire body weight is affected. For this reason, knee injuries are common in traumatology. Known for a large list of diseases of the knee joint. Basically, they are the result of various injuries, falls, or a heavy load on the knee joint.

Quite often, the complication of knee injuries is manifested in the form of fluid in the knee joint. If there is swelling of the joint, swelling of various degrees, and pain syndrome, this is a symptom of the accumulation of fluid in the knee joint. Treatment in such cases includes the creation of the necessary conditions for the establishment of complete rest of the affected joint with the help of fixation with a plaster bandage. If fluid in the knee is still observed, as a rule, it is removed by a surgeon using a syringe under local anesthesia. Thus the liquid can be transparent, turbid or bloody. On how strong the damage to the knee is, the intensity of the pain syndrome also depends.

Inflammation of the synovium.

If there is fluid in the knee joint, this is a dangerous signal that the synovial membrane of the joint has become inflamed. Such a disease was called synovitis. Synovitis is a consequence of damage to the knee joint, and the fluid in the knee accumulates because of rheumatological or infectious knee injury. The fluid with synovitis, as a rule, contains no blood. Synovia (or liquid) and under normal conditions is present in the joint cavity, however, in inflammatory processes of the synovial membrane, its volume significantly increases. In addition, in addition to injuries, synovitis can arise from all kinds of autoimmune processes, or if metabolic processes are disrupted in the body. Inflammation can also be secondary, against the background, for example, of gonarthrosis. In this case, the patient develops a reactive synovitis.

Inflammation, as a rule, has an aseptic basis, i.e. Without the presence of infection. A consequence of this inflammation is the resulting serous effusion. But if infection invades the processes, in this case the fluid changes its structure, purulent formations appear, and subsequently the purulent synovitis develops. Therefore, in any case, if you have found signs that fluid is accumulating in the knee joint, treatment should be performed as soon as possible.

Symptoms of synovitis.

With synovitis, symptoms are detected gradually, mostly after a few hours or even a whole day after the injury. The first and obvious sign: the knee markedly increased in volume. Accumulated fluid deforms the contours of the knee joint, while movement is difficult - this is the second symptom, which can be accompanied by painlessness. But, nevertheless, the pain sensations are mainly inherent in this type of pathology. As a rule, the pain is blurred, of medium intensity and blunt.

Treatment of synovitis.

The first stage is as follows: it is necessary to remove fluid in the knee joint. Treatment begins in the operating room, anesthesia is not required. The inserted thin needle removes liquid. After this procedure, it is necessary to introduce antibiotics into the joint cavity, even if there is no suspicion of infection. Next, you need to ensure complete rest to the patient's knee. For this use a pressing tight bandage or knee. After that, the treatment of the knees reduces to the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, such as "Diclofenac", "Voltaren", etc.

In the treatment it is important to eliminate not only the liquid in the knee, but also the very cause of its appearance. An accurate diagnosis can only be made by a specialist: a rheumatologist or orthopedist.

If the cause is not eliminated, as a rule, fluid appears again in the knee joint, the treatment is repeated.

Bursitis.

Knee injuries can give birth to another disease called bursitis - an inflammation of bags that contain a fluid designed for easy sliding of ligaments and tendons. With bursitis, the knee redness is swollen and red, as well as a pronounced sharp pain when loaded on the joint.

Treatment of bursitis.

On the diseased joint, i.e. In which the fluid in the knee accumulated, the treatment is as follows: first put a roller under the leg. Then resort to various compresses, which lower the infiltration in the knee and gradually reduce the edema.
