Bishkek - the capital of Kyrgyzstan

What is the capital of Kyrgyzstan? Since 1936 - Bishkek. For its history, the city changed its name twice: until 1926 - Pishpek, and then until 1991 - Frunze. Modern Bishkek has all the characteristics typical of the capital city. It is the administrative, industrial and cultural center of Kyrgyzstan. A ramified trolleybus network operates in the city, a shallow subway is planned.

As we said above, from 1926 to 1991 Bishkek was called Frunze. His name was given in honor of the commander M. Frunze. Since 1925, the city is the administrative center of the Autonomous Okrug. In 1936, Frunze was the capital of Kyrgyzstan in the USSR. And so it was until the collapse of the Union. Already in February 1991, by decision of the Supreme Council, it was decided to rename Bishkek.

Features

Urban buildings and streets are located in non-overlapping projections, providing free circulation of mountain air. Its purity can be felt even in the city center, and with minimal winds. But the fresh air in a developed industrial city is very rare.

Relief and internal waters

Bishkek is located at the base of the mountainous Kirgiz ridge, two dozen kilometers from the riverbed of the Chu River. It is the largest watercourse that crosses Kyrgyzstan. The capital (see photo in the article) is supplied with water from canals and irrigation ditches fed from this river.

The Kirghiz ridge is very popular with tourists, as it is convenient to get to the foot of the mountains. In the gorge of Ala-Archa there is a camp of mountaineers. From this point the tourist routes on the inner Tien Shan diverge, to which the Kirghiz Range refers. Gorges with convenient access to Alamedin and Issyk-Ata are also popular. Mountain spurs are covered with glacial caps, they are similar in landscape to alpine landscapes.

Development of tourism

In the winter season, for lovers of outdoor activities, there is a ski center "Chon-Tash". On its territory, the snow depth is not too high, which makes this place unsuitable for training of professional skiers. But for ordinary citizens "Chon-Tash" is attractive, since the capital of Kyrgyzstan is located in close proximity, and there is also a convenient transport interchange. Having traveled a little farther from Bishkek, vacationers can stop at other ski resorts, which have extended ski trails and a higher snow cover.

In the summer season, tourists can have a great rest near suburban water bodies. These are urban reservoirs and tributaries of the Chu River. Warm springs with mineral waters were discovered in the valleys of these streams.

On the coast of the turbulent Issyk-Ata river is located the eponymous balneological sanatorium. You can recover in it with the help of mud and hydrotherapy, physiotherapy procedures, mountain air, picturesque landscape.

The territory of the basin of the mountain river Ala-archa is occupied by a state park with the same name. The curative air of junipers and firs creates a unique microclimate of the whole mountainous zone. In Bishkek itself, as well as in the district, there are many parks and green spaces.

City center

The capital of Kyrgyzstan has many beautiful places, but the central square is Ala-Too Square. On its perimeter are museums, art galleries, shops, cafes, restaurants. Also concentrated here are administrative metropolitan buildings: the mayoralty, the government house, business centers, state universities. A ten-meter bronze sculpture towers to the hero of the Kyrgyz epic Manas the Magnanimous and a national flag.

Museums

In Bishkek, 11 museums function, making the capital of Kyrgyzstan the largest cultural center. In the central part of the city there are the main museums of Kyrgyzstan: National Historical, Fine Arts, Memorial Museum of MV. Frunze. Having visited them, you can get acquainted with the history of development of Kyrgyzstan.

In Bishkek, the Erkindik Gallery is constantly functioning with the works of local craftsmen. There is a unique reconstructed Kyrgyz village of Kyrgyz ayyla, which conveys the atmosphere and national color.

Theaters

The cultural life of the capital is developing on the theatrical stage of Bishkek. The most famous of them are the Opera and Ballet Theater, the State Drama Theater, the Russian National Theater, the State Puppet Theater, the Folklore and Ethnographic Theater, and the State Philharmonic.

Parks and public gardens

Those wishing to leisurely stroll away from the city bustle or have fun at the attractions are given the opportunity to implement these plans in the cozy parks and squares of Bishkek. For children, the amusement park "Flamingo" is suitable. Park long-liver - Oak park. This is a favorite place of rest for the townspeople. Centennial trees rise along its avenues.

A more modern Friendship Park surprises with a variety of shrubs, conifers and deciduous trees. They are 75 species. In the park a memorial to the dead soldiers-Afghans was laid.

The capital of Kyrgyzstan is rich in sculptures and monuments in honor of the figures of history and politics of different periods of the country's development.
