Prevention of injuries in children

One of the main aspects of the struggle for children's health is the prevention of injuries. Leading medical experts of WHO, analyzing the causes of death of children, found that at the present time in civilized countries children are more likely to die due to accidents than from any diseases. A huge number of injuries can lead to rather serious consequences, which result in disability, the emergence of various functional disorders, all kinds of anatomical and cosmetic defects, which in the future significantly affect the child's quality of life.

Of course, the psychological traits of children are also contributing to the emergence of the main number of injuries: curiosity, extreme mobility, incredible emotionality, a lack of life experience and, as a consequence, a virtually complete absence of a sense of danger. But huge importance is played by the excessive carelessness of adults.

Speaking about the complex of events such as injury prevention, let's look at some of the most common injuries in children.

First of all, these are burns, including steam burns. Often burns leave significant scars, but their danger lies not only in this. Especially dangerous is the attachment of a secondary infection, painful shock, which can lead to death.

The fall is the next most common cause of serious bruises, various bone fractures and severe head injuries. As a rule, in the fall of babies only parents or other adults who currently care for crumbs are to blame. If this happens, you should immediately consult a doctor, even if there is no visible disturbance of well-being. It is also necessary to ensure that the windows are always closed or taken up by grilles (the kids can fall, leaning on the mosquito net).

Wounds are not less common in children. If any injury has occurred, it is immediately necessary to assess the severity of the possible bleeding, stop it by applying a tourniquet (if required by the situation), to go to a medical facility. Dangerous is not only the loss of blood, but also the infection.

Suffocation from small objects is characteristic mainly for younger children. Prevention of injuries in this case lies in the fact that children up to a certain age should not give food with small bones and hard pieces, and also pay attention to the presence of small details in toys.

Consider the following type of injury - poisoning by household chemical agents. Toxic substances, at first glance, safe medicines, bleaches, corrosive acids and fuel, say, kerosene, can not be stored in colorful bottles and other bottles from food. Kids love beautiful packaging and can mistakenly drink the contents. Keep these substances in places that are absolutely inaccessible to children.

Children can also get electro-injury. Serious damage can be obtained by sticking your fingers or other objects into the electrical outlets. From children they must be closed with special plugs.

In summer, water traumatism is quite common. Children can be drowned in less than a minute and a half, even in a small amount of water, because in no case should they be left unattended in water or near water. Prevention of injuries on water is also concluded in the following events. It is necessary to close wells, recruited baths, large buckets of water with special or improvised means. Children need to learn the rules of safety behavior on the water and near the water.

Special attention should be paid to road injuries. The prevention of injuries in children in this case is the observance of traffic rules. Parents should always know and always remember that once the kid learns to walk, it must be taught the rules of behavior on the road.

Kids do not think about the presence of danger when on the road, so you need to closely monitor them.

Accidents during cycling are a fairly common cause of death and injury in older children. Such cases could be avoided in most cases by teaching their children to use protective equipment (such as, for example, a helmet).

Prevention of childhood injuries is primarily based on the need to learn from examples of adult behavior in similar situations. But despite all the measures taken, child injuries remain extremely common.
