In modern life, we very rarely think about how water comes into our house, how it appears in the tap and where it goes. We just use it, and we like it.

But when repairing obsolete pipes in the bathroom, if you decide that in a new house the pipe routing in the bathroom with your own hands or the master invited by it is made, it is better to know the technology of this process. Water supply schemes

There are various schemes of water supply. In apartments of urban type, usually water comes from the general urban water supply network - both cold and hot. Water pipes have a certain throughput, and it is impossible to connect a very large number of consumers to the system (each faced with the situation: the pressure of cold water decreases sharply when using a shower, when water is pumped into a washing machine or the toilet is rinsed). To avoid this situation, it is necessary to increase the diameter of the pipes or install a compensation valve. It is also necessary to know that an increase in water consumption will lead to an increase in the volume of sewage. This means that the modernization of the water supply system can lead to changes in the sewage system.

Typically, the water in the apartment or the house is served on the riser. Depending on the number of consumers, it can be for a private house from ¾ to 1 inch, for a multi-storey house it can be 2 inches. Further from the riser, water directly to consumers is fed through internal wiring pipes, they are usually ¼-½-in. In diameter (depending on the amount of water consumed).

Choice of materials

Pipes can be metal (steel, cast iron, copper), metal-plastic, metal-polymer, polypropylene. For the water supply system, the most common type of pipes is steel pipes. They can be welded and seamless. There are with anti-corrosion coating and without it. Galvanized pipes do not require painting, priming and other protective measures, except for areas where the protective layer is broken. When connecting such pipes to steel fittings, an anti-corrosion treatment is preliminarily carried out. For threaded joints of pipes transporting cold and hot water (t - 100 degrees C), linen strand serves as the sealing material. It must be impregnated with a surplus or whitewash mixed with natural linseed oil. An alternative is to seal the connection using a PCM tape. It is wound in the direction of thread in three to four layers, depending on the diameter of the pipe.

In the conditions of work performed by oneself, metal-polymer or polypropylene pipes are preferable. It does not matter whether the pipes are open or hidden in the bathroom. You must first make a drawing. Calculate the number of pipes required for a particular diameter, couplings, elbows, tees, various fasteners, ball valves, clips for fastening pipes.

Piping connection

Metal pipes are connected by welding or threaded connection using couplings. Metal-plastic - by crimping with a special hydraulic tool, which guarantees a quality connection. Metal-plastic pipe is cut with special scissors, it is easy to bend by hand. To produce small-radius bends, conductor springs are used, in addition, a significant number of squares are saved.

When connecting the pipe to the fitting, it is necessary to cut off its piece of the required length, to remove the chamfer inside it, to put on the pipe the union nut, the split ring and the union, tighten the nut with the key, the pipe will be pressed on the union.

The polypropylene pipes are made by welding the fragments with a soldering iron, trying not to overheat it, since it is possible to seal the inner hole tightly. Apply a variety of tees (45 and 90 degrees), couplings, knees.

All connection points must be accessible in case of repair with a soldering iron or with keys.

Mounting order

Tubes begin to be mounted after the meters, stopcocks and water filters are installed. The sequence of connection of devices in the scheme of both hot and cold water supply should be as follows: inlet ball valve, counter, coarse water filter, fine filter (preferably), collapsible splitter with ball valves for each direction, demountable pipes, water consumption terminal.

Filters for coarse water purification are necessary to prevent clogging of pipes and terminals with large fragments (sand, rust particles, scales, other inclusions). From a large number of types of filters, it is better to choose a washable by running water with the discharge of the filtered ingredients into the sewage.

For each sanitary appliance, mixer, toilet bowl, shower, washing machine, water heater is installed its own ball valve. This helps if something needs to be repaired. Do not have to cover all the water entering the apartment. It is enough to block the water in the place necessary for repair.

After the piping has been completed, it must be ensured that there is no leakage. To do this, it is necessary to include, first of all, cold water for 10-15 minutes, and then check whether there are drops or streaks in the threaded joints, in the places of welding, crimping, in places where there are flexible tubes and hoses. If leakage is present, the deficiencies need to be eliminated. Then the same training should be subjected to the distribution of pipes for hot water.

Concealed wiring

There are two options for wiring in the bathroom: open and hidden.

Piping the tubing in the bathroom with your own hands is easier in the open version in a consistent way, when all plumbing devices are connected one by one in succession. This wiring does not always suit the hosts, since all the pipes remain in sight.

The hidden wiring assumes the location of the pipes in the wall recesses, and after checking the tightness of the wiring, closing these grooves with an external coating (for example, tiles) or plastering makes the pipes invisible. The difficulty lies in the fact that the walls can not be wall-mounted for concealed wiring in bearing walls. Pipes can only be connected in accessible places. The main pipeline inside the wall must be absolutely solid. Pipes that are embedded in the wall are placed inside the corrugated hoses to protect them from mechanical damage during thermal expansion (in the hot water supply system) and from condensate protection (for cold water).
