Pain in the chest with inspiration

Thoracalgia or pain in the sternum may appear due to various lesions of some internal organs, also with psychogenic diseases, structural changes in bone-cartilaginous tissues of the chest and spine diseases. Thoracalgia can be a consequence of various diseases, such as pleurisy, pulmonary embolism, pneumonia, mitral valve prolapse, myocardial infarction and angina pectoris. In addition, pain in the sternum during movement, can speak of angina, when there is insufficient supply of blood to the muscles of the heart, this may be due to sclerotic changes in the blood vessels of the heart that cause pain in the sternum during inspiration.

There are pains in the sternum with inspiration in the case when a person develops musculoskeletal thoracalgia, it is often confused with intercostal neuralgia. Pain syndromes are caused by bone chondritis, in this case inflammation of bone-cartilaginous structures begins, and especially the pains appear when coughing. Unlike angina, these pain can last for several days. Sometimes pericarditis can develop, it is an inflammation of the connective tissue bag that surrounds the heart, it can be caused by a virus. With pericardial piercing pains begin to spread, which intensify in the supine position, especially when deep breaths are felt.

In the event that the walls of the arteries or the valvular system of the heart are damaged, there may also be pain in the sternum with a sigh, but such pains differ from angina or heart attacks. In the chest area, pain can arise that is not associated with the heart, but with stressful situations, when suddenly a person experiences anxiety or strong fear. He has hyperventilation, that is, he starts to breathe often and at the same time feels numbness and tingling of the lips, as well as discomfort in the chest area. Discomfort in the chest can be with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, when the hernia of the diaphragmatic opening develops, heartburn and increased gas formation, in such cases, the pain is localized in the lower parts of the chest.

Especially often there are pains in the sternum when inhaling, when the mucous membrane that surrounds the lung is inflamed, and in the case when a person develops pleurisy. In this case, the patient tries less to breathe the sick side, since each movement causes acute pain. Pneumothorax can also be the cause of such pain, but in this case air accumulates in the pleural space. In addition to severe pain, the patient feels an acute shortage of oxygen.

Pain in the chest area occurs after injuries, with fracture of the ribs, cartilage damage or muscle strain in the chest area. In the case when a person has chest pain when breathing in, it is necessary to find out the reasons for such syndromes in the doctor, and then begin the therapeutic actions aimed at eliminating such phenomena. When you develop pain with spasms of the heart vessels, you should immediately lie down and take a vasodilator drug, and it is best to put a nitroglycerin pill under the tongue. If a person has had angina pectoris, he should always take diltiazem or nifidipine, these drugs help to increase the supply of cardiac muscle with oxygen, and the drugs "Propranolol" and "Atenolol", which are beta-blockers, can reduce oxygen consumption by cardiac tissue. In other cases, to eliminate pain in the sternum, all the causes that caused it must be eliminated, such as muscular neuralgia, heartburn, pain after the stroke, and as soon as they are eliminated, the person will cease thoracology.
