About the Opera and Ballet Theater

The Opera and Ballet Theater (Nizhny Novgorod) was opened in 1935. Years of formation fell on the ambiguous Stalin era. Then there was the war and the period of a heavy return to peaceful life. In 60-70 years of the last century it became the center of cultural life of the city. In addition to masterpieces of world classics, the repertoire included works by Soviet composers A. Rybnikov, T. Khrennikov, S. Prokofiev, A. Petrov, A. Khachaturyan and others. Since 1986 the Nizhny Novgorod opera has been holding a festival of all-Russian significance among the ballet artists "Boldin Autumn". The famous director Boris Pokrovsky began his career in the Nizhny Novgorod opera. Artists of the theater successfully toured around the world.
