Onion rings: appetizer and garnish

Onion rings are one of the easiest to prepare and one of the cheapest treats. Recently, more and more beer lovers prefer this interesting snack, moving away from pistachios, peanuts and chips. And in the cafe are increasingly serving rings as a side dish instead of French fries.

In many respects, the fact that it is really very easy to prepare them. You just need to mix flour (about two tablespoons) with salt and pepper - half a teaspoon in one bowl, and in the other - sour cream (about 150 grams) with two eggs and flour. You need to add flour so much that the mass is not thick - about 3 tablespoons. Next, take the chips (which you like more) and crumble them. Turn the oven on 200 degrees.

The cooking process begins. Cut the onions as thick as you like, but with rings. It is better to take large bulbs - they are easier to cut and the rings turn out to be impressive. Then we dip each ring in the first bowl, then in the second. We look, that the glass is all superfluous, sprinkle with chips - and put it on a baking tray. It is better, if on a baking sheet there will be a paper for baking. It is smeared with vegetable oil (just a little bit, so that the rings do not stick to the paper), and you do not have to wash anything, you can safely proceed with the use of cooked. Onion rings will be baked for about 5-8 minutes on each side until a golden crust appears. Once it is formed, you can take it out. You can cook some sauce and dip the rings in it, you can pour over gravy if the rings are served as a garnish. And you can eat just like that, they are very tasty and without anything.

There is another way to cook onion rings - in batter. The dough, into which we will dip rings, many prepare on beer. So it turns out more airy and voluminous. If you do not want volume - we use ordinary water instead of beer. To do this, mix a little beer with flour, salt, pepper, eggs and vegetable oil. You can add garlic, passed through the press, to taste. Beat everything with a blender until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Next, you have to heat the vegetable oil in a saucepan - as if we are going to fry the French fries. Carefully lower the onion rings there, which we pre-dipped in a liquid batter. The cooking time of such rings is about five minutes, then they turn out to be crispy and very appetizing. However, if you like the crust pale, you can get them before. If you have a fryer, it's still easier, it will take about 1-2 minutes.

I must say that in the first case, when we used the oven, and in the second, we need to lay out the rings first on baking paper, and then serve - so she will absorb the excess oil.

Onion rings to beer it is desirable to serve immediately, otherwise they can get wet and will not crunch. But all the same will remain tasty.

Many add starch to the dough (about three tablespoons), but such rings are more suitable for garnish.

How to cook onion rings for garnish

There are no fundamental differences between these rings and the snack version. Only it is recommended to use bread crumbs instead of chips, so that the taste of the chips does not interrupt the taste of the main dish. And even instead of sour cream is better to take unsweetened yogurt or some sour milk product - kefir, for example. Best onion rings are suitable for fish and meat dishes.

The dish, despite its simplicity, can be made very, very unusual, if you approach creatively. All kinds of spices, a mixture of spices, all kinds of additions - all this can make a usual snack to beer your business card. And, of course, to drink a mug of beer with rings cooked in your kitchen is much nicer than with the purchased chips.
