Because of what pupils are dilated?

What if the pupils are dilated? To begin with, find out why this happened. They can increase for the following reasons:

• From medications and eye drops. Some drugs have different effects on the human body. Eye drops may also affect the dilatation of the pupils, and this may not be an allergy. Usually, the instructions to this or that drug indicate side effects;
• From the darkness. In the dark, the pupils are dilated due to the fact that in the unlit room the eyes try to increase the area of their perception;

• Another pupil can be dilated for another reason. They can be a sign of sympathy for someone. For example, if a woman is on a date with a young man who attracts her attention, and this happens - then he likes her.

There is such a thing as mydriasis - bilateral dilatation of the pupils. This phenomenon can be observed in those who wear contact lenses, if a person is struck by the middle brain, and also as a result of the fact that the reaction to light is broken (especially if it is a deep coma). Also it can be considered as a benign and harmless feature in sympathicotonic vegetatively labile individuals. Still this phenomenon can be caused by internal or local use of preparations.

Pupils can expand with emotions and diseases: fear, anxiety, hyperthyroidism, pain, cerebral anoxia, cardiac arrest or nearsightedness. They can also be large in size if a person takes a deep breath or makes a loud sound.

Also it is worth considering a one-sided extended pathological pupil. The causes may be oculomotor paralysis. This is usually accompanied by ptosis. In such cases, the pupil does not show any reaction to light, there are no natural tendon reflexes. More often this can be found in women, it is inherited. Still it can be caused by that the person accepted on one party preparations which cause a mydriasis.

Constantly widened pupils can be so because of accidental or deliberate instillation of cycloplegic medications, like atropine and substances that are similar to it. There may also be internal ophthalmoplegia. However, pupils are dilated in this case only if there is a brain tumor. So, this is possible because of the pinealoma. The pupil can also be "blurred" if the person has a supratentorial hernia. If he has neurological iridoplegia, the dilated pupil will narrow, if a 1% solution of pilocarpine is injected into the eyes.
