Mount Jomolungma: location and coordinates

The path of the longest mountain belt of the universe is beaten through the whole of Eurasia. He, taking the beginning from the foot of the French Alps, extends to the expanses of South Vietnam. The highest mountain range of the gigantic mountain chain is the Himalayas.

The majestic mountain looks like a grandiose, petrified wave that ascended to heaven. The crest of a wave, frozen in a stone, is crowned by the Great Himalayas. In the main Himalayan ridge, stretching along the border of Tibet and Nepal, 11 peaks joined. Each mountain range here has a height of more than 8,000 meters.

Historical names of the highest mountain range

Here, in the "abode of eternal snows", on the lands of China, Mount Jomolungma - the highest of the Himalayan "eight-thousand-meter" range - spread out. The giant mountain, which soared to the incredible height, has two more names. Residents of Nepal called her Sagarmatha - "Lord of the sky."

The Tibetans call the summit of Jomolungma (in translation - "Goddess of the Earth"). For Europeans it is the peak of Everest. They called the mountain so when India experienced the era of colonization, under the yoke of Britain, and the topographic service of the enslaved state was led by Major D. Everest, who studied the colossal mountain system.

The top of the world

The Himalayan array is considered a unique place. In this wonderful corner are the origins of the Indus and Ganges. To the Chinese, the mountain of Jomolungma with its high status became known much earlier than people from the New World. Tibetan monks at the northern foothills of the "summit of the sky" founded the monastery Ronkbuk, which is still in force.

In front of a person entering the inner monastic courtyard, a majestic spectacle opens up - impressive mountain ranges of stunning beauty. The splendor of the grandiose peak is felt from the mountain passes adjacent to it and located for many kilometers from it.

Formation of Everest

The Himalayan range, according to geologists, was formed in the era of the split of the ancient mainland of Gondwana. The mainland broke into slabs. The Indian plate, moving in the northern direction, came across the Eurasian chip. In the zone of joining the plates compression of the earth's crust occurred and the formation of a huge fold, which the Himalayas called.

The Himalayan mountain system was formed by three grandiose steps stretching from north to south. The "pre-Himalayas" that form the southern step have a smaller height. The mountain ranges here have a height of about 1000 m.

The average step is represented by arrays rising to 3500 m. In the northern part, the altitude of the mountain peaks varies in the range of 6000-8000 m. The width of the mountain ranges reaches 80-90 km.

The growth of the Himalayan Range has not been suspended so far. Scientists assure that the height of the Himalayas is increased by 3-10 mm per year. In the mountain range there are 75 peaks exceeding the altitude of 7,000 meters. The Nepalese Himalayas are recognized as the highest.

And above all the ridges ascended Mount Jomolungma. Where is its peak? It rises above the vast Chinese expanses. The highest peak of Everest is surrounded by other giant peaks, forming a real "roof of the world", keeping the sky above the earth.

The height of Everest

Mountain peak, proudly rising from the eternal Himalayan snows, attracts tourists with greatness and fascinating beauty. A lot of climbers dream of conquering the steep slopes of a grandiose mountain range with the shape of a triangular pyramid. Overcoming them for difficult mountain paths with a length of 8848 meters (such is the height of the mountain of Jomolungma) is a great honor!

The exact height of the peak was established by English surveyors in 1852. Since then, many attempts have been made to refute Everest's primacy. However, they were repeatedly denounced, because they all proved to be untenable.

While the bulk of the high peaks entering the mountainous complexes of the world, submitted to the climbers, to the "seven thousandths" and "eight-thousanders", which formed the mountain of Jomolungma, Everest, if you like, the climbers did not know how to approach.

The climate of Chomolungma

The steepness of the southern slope is much larger than that of the other two. Snow on it does not linger, therefore before the eyes of travelers appears a naked rock. The rest of the slopes are covered by glaciers that extend 5,000 meters upward.

Specifying the coordinates of Mount Jomolungma, tourists understand that the climate at the "top of the world" is far from comfortable. When bad weather is played on the mountain range, it is very dangerous to stay in its open spaces. The column of the thermometer freezes here at around -60 0 C, and the wind whistles at a speed of 200 km / h.

Climbing to Chomolungma

The magnetic attraction of the highest point of the Earth is incredible. Mountaineers go year after year to the East, to where the mountain of Jomolungma is located, where the point of its giant peak piercing the clouds lies. The temptation to conquer this peak is great, but reach its unity.

The philosophy of Everest is harsh. The way to its peak was ordered by those who are fussy and hasty, unscrupulous and careless. He often turns into a tragedy for them. The first climbers, who started the ascent at the dawn of the XX century, suffered a fiasco due to poor equipment. For the first time, the mountain of Jomolungma was submitted to people in 1953.

Mountaineers incessantly compete in the difficulty of climbing Mount Everest. Some try to climb the icy slopes in the winter. Others, intending to climb to the top, refuse to capture oxygen. Emancipated women, united in a group, try to overcome a difficult path without men.

However, to surprise all the remoteness only Reinhold Messner. The unruly mountain of Jomolungma gave him the great mercy - to put several records at the same time! He, climbing alone on the northern slope without oxygen, overcame the ascent to the summit in 3 days. In 1992, 32 alpinists climbed the peak as part of the Russian team "Lada-Everest".

Climbing of the last time

The success of the expedition depends not so much on the quality of the equipment as on the climate that determines the latitude and longitude of the mountain of Jomolungma (27 ° 59'17 "N, 86 ° 55'31" E) and its height. In addition, climbers have to overcome mountain sickness, which occurs at high air underpressure.

Approximately 500 travelers annually visit the peak. The governments of the Middle Kingdom and Nepal are not averse to earning the right to climb the slopes of a harsh peak. Now almost all ascents are carried out on a commercial basis. Tourists negotiate in specialized firms on organizing the ascent to the peak of Everest.

Professional guides accompany travelers to the very top. The service to climbers is 65,000 dollars. This amount includes training, provision of the required equipment and security (within the limits of possible) on a laborious mountain route. Acclimatization and climbing takes about 2 months.
