This device is designed to connect a monitor with an HDMI interface to personal computers or laptops manufactured by Apple or its partners with a mini-display output. Prohibition of adapter cables

Organization HDMI Org opposed the mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters of all types. It has the right to both prohibit and allow the sale of any devices that work with HDMI connectors. In the case of the above-mentioned cable, a very tough decision was made. Namely: representatives of the group HDMI.org, who are responsible for the development of this specification, have declared mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapters unlicensed. This means that all such products must be removed from the sale. This situation will have a serious impact on the product lines of most manufacturers around the world, including such companies as Toshiba and Apple. As a result, all manufacturers were sent notifications with the requirements to withdraw from the said adapters and generally remove them from production. So for today the sale of cables mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter is prohibited. However, under this ban, only products with a high-quality video interface connector of the "dad" type were found, and the same devices, but with the "mama" type connector, remained. First and foremost, these changes have affected well-known companies, but it will be much more difficult to influence Chinese producers. So, if desired, the devices under consideration can be purchased, for example, through auction sites.

Conclusion

When Apple Company presented 27-inch iMac computers with a mini DisplayPort input, many users hoped to use this device as a monitor for game consoles or Blu-ray players. After all, the quality of matrices of the type IPS with LED backlight used in such computers is not inferior to the best LCD TVs. However, as it turned out, branded adapters do not work in the opposite direction. Therefore, the only devices with which iMac can be used as a monitor are Apple laptops that support the mini DisplayPort interface.
