Mill for grains: species, characteristics. How to make a mill for grain with your own hands?

Hand grinders for grinding the grain of the house are modern household structures, allowing to get without effort the flour from different types of groats.

When developing such a device as a grain mill, professional engineers use the latest technology, thanks to which work in the kitchen becomes pleasant and easy. These are relatively new units, but they managed to gain wide popularity in the market of kitchen appliances.

There are also industrial mills for grain. But they are used in large flour mills and in farms. The prices for them are quite high.

A wide range of accessories are available in stores, such as a grain mill. But it is not so difficult to make such a device, but it will require a fair amount of skill and the ability to work with turning and drilling devices. The home mill for grains will allow to obtain flour of different grinding, depending on the preset setting. In doing so, you will spend a minimum of money.

This article will tell you how to make a grain mill for yourself.

Mill "Little Baby"

The most common model is a mill for grains "Malyutka". It was invented in Udmurtiya by two engineers. By means of this device, it is possible to achieve not only crushing grain to the required size, but also making mixed fodder and obtaining flour from corn, buckwheat and other cereals. Such an electric mill for grain will simply be irreplaceable in a family that lives in its own house and contains domestic animals.

The size of this machine is small, but the level of performance is able to surprise any user. In five minutes you can process a full bucket of corn, and a bucket of wheat is easy to grind in just three minutes.

Technical parameters of the device:

  • The size of the hull, not including, the hopper and the branch pipe, is 320 x 160 x 170 mm;
  • The device is capable of producing grinding of two types: fine and coarse;
  • Low engine power rating - 180 W;
  • High level of productivity with low energy consumption;
  • Presence of a reversible rotary engine;
  • The weight of the device is 15 kg.

The main task, which increases the efficiency and strength of such an aggregate, as a grain mill, is the assembly of a rotor and a stator.

Rotor manufacturing process

A hand-grinder for grain with its own hands has a unified scheme, so the assembly can be classified as light. If it seems impossible to billet parts manually, you can order them in the lathe workshop. You need a stator, a rotor, and also a cover of the bearing assembly.

If you decided to use the rotor yourself, you should take into account a number of important technical nuances:

  1. The part must be equipped with a shaft with a variable cross-section. It is made of forging M 45 with a length of 9 cm and a diameter of 12 cm or a steel round bar.
  2. The whole process should proceed step by step: the preparation of metal parts (in a circle with a diameter of 105 mm, holes with a radius of 5 cm are drilled at the same distance).
  3. Remove the outer layer of the circle in such a way that the size of the bore is reduced to 104.5 mm. The working teeth must be in the open position. After that, the rotor is subjected to hardening.

Rotor processing

Hardening of the rotor should be carried out in a certain sequence: the temperature in the oven is brought to 800 ° C, after which the component is lowered into the oil container. To cool the metal with water in this case is highly not recommended, since cracks may appear. Then, the rotor is subjected to secondary heating, but already to 400 ° C. You need to let it cool down at room temperature. As a result, you will get a very solid and solid part that will last for several decades. To check the quality level of the performed work, it is necessary to draw a file along the cutting side of the tooth. If there is a slip and there is no trace, it means that everything is done correctly.

In such a device as a homemade grain mill, the rotor will rotate by means of two radial bearings. This increases the rigidity of the knot and the strength of the device. Between the bearings in the shaft, a distance ring of 0.5 mm is made. It serves to shift the bearings and create the tension necessary to adapt the assembly to the stress in the mechanism.

Making a stator

Making a stator is a little more difficult, since in this case you will need accuracy. The work is done in stages. Firstly, turning the workpiece on a lathe is carried out, and then a small technological allowance is left. For this purpose, a hole is drilled to 70 mm in the center. The workpiece is marked with a circle with a diameter of 105 mm, the central points of future openings are applied. Subsequently they will become the working plane for the stator. The marking is applied strictly according to the drawing.

The contours of the holes are indicated at the top and bottom, and then deaf "windows" are drilled with a depth of approximately 26 mm. The machine removes the allowance left earlier, and the work chamber (105 mm) is bored. The resulting workpiece is flipped over and a landing notch is inserted to insert the bearings. It will also be necessary to manufacture a groove for sealing parts. The mill can also function without this component.

When the stator is ready, it is possible to start creating holes with threads for the bearing caps, stator, nipple and loading box. The stator, like the rotor, undergoes thermal treatment using a similar technology.

Ensuring the precise operation of the unit, it is necessary to correctly position the stator. In this case, bolts are used. The rotor must move slowly and easily when operating, without jerking or stopping. Only after checking the functionality of all the parts can you begin to test the device. To this end, the mill (flour mill) is fixed on a stool or table so that it does not fall when it vibrates.

Base production

The frame is an important detail. It is used as a base plate. To create it, a sheet of steel with a thickness of 6-8 mm is used. A stator is attached to the frame by means of M6 screws. The screws will also hold the pipe, which can be removable. The nozzle is installed in the opening of the base corresponding to the diameter of the part. In the mechanism, it is held only by friction.

Manufacture of nipple

To make a branch pipe, it is necessary to take a piece of pipe with a thin wall. Its diameter should be 28 mm. Applicable product with a round or square section. Depending on this index, a hole of the desired shape and diameter is made in the frame.

Making a box for loading

If you manufactured all of the above items, then the production of the loading box is not so difficult. It is made of roofing sheet metal, bending in accordance with the desired shape and soldering seams. Conventional sheet iron is also applicable, but roofing is more durable.

When the part is ready, it should be mounted on the stator and fixed by means of two M6 bolts.

Consider the important points

Before starting to assemble the hand mill for grain grinding, the following fact is taken into account: if the rotor is rotated only in one direction, the first half of the stator working chamber will be in working order, and when the rotor rotates in the reverse direction, the second one is connected. Parties differ in the number of projections and their size. This allows you to get flour of different grinding (large or small). Only the direction of the rotor should be changed.

Unit installation

To bring all the parts into operation, a certain amount of current is required. Before you start cutting out all the details of the device, prepare the necessary electrical equipment. For such a unified design, expensive elements are not needed.

You will need an electric motor, a capacitor with a capacity of 3.8 μF, a fuse and a toggle switch. The engine is mounted on a dielectric plate, the other components are also attached there. To rotor turned in the opposite direction, resort to switching the capacitor.

Shafts for crushing and the engine are located along the axis. To transfer the rotation, a rigid coupling is used. At the corners for the fastening holes are drilled, which guide the parts to adjust the position. Holes are made in the frame. They are needed to move.

Croup is loaded into the receiving box, a flour container is put under the outlet pipe and the first grinding process is carried out at home.

The article covers the question of how to make a mill for grain by oneself. Making such a practical device is not particularly difficult. A manual car will cost you much less than buying a factory fixture.
