Intellectual state of man: examples

Psychology studies the mental processes, properties and states of the individual. The first include elementary units of the psyche, ensuring its functioning. Singles out mental cognitive processes (sensation, perception, memory, thinking, imagination) and attention. The latter is not an independent process, but regulates others, and also rebuilds the psyche in response to changing environmental conditions.

Mental properties characterize the stable phenomena prevailing in a particular individual: anxiety, suspiciousness, rigidity, lability extraversion-introversion, etc. By mental states mean temporary peculiarities of mental activity, characterizing the attitude of the individual to everything that happens around. The intellectual state of man is singled out as a special group.

Intellectual states are those that arise in the process of intellectual activity, as well as intellectual emotions. Let us dwell on this in more detail.

Surprise

The intellectual states of man were known even in Ancient Greece. Thus, Aristotle believed that in the process of cognition, the transition from simple things to more complex things is possible thanks to surprise. This emotion is also valuable because the person understands his attitude to the subject or phenomenon without preliminary analysis and assessment. This is the intellectual state.

Surprised, people learn something new, make scientific discoveries. After all, what caused surprise, contradicts the person's ideas, therefore, stimulates the knowledge of the unknown. It is not by chance that the methods of teaching preschool children and primary school pupils are based on the unity of affect and intellect. Such methods change the intellectual state of a person. Examples: children close their eyes, and the teacher changes into a good fairy; The teacher begins to explain the new topic from the puzzle, and so on.

Emotions, contrary to surprise, do not exist, but surprise itself may be unpleasant in some circumstances.

Thoughtfulness

By thoughtfulness is meant such an intellectual state of a person when he is immersed in meditation. It is characterized by immobility, inexpressiveness of mimicry, slow reactions, monotonous speech.

This state is welcomed in situations where it is necessary to solve the problem, to cope with a difficult task, to find a way out. But excessive immersion in yourself can lead to misfortune like a car accident or testify to a mental illness.

Interest

The state of interest is characterized by the interaction of the intellectual, emotional and volitional components. At the heart of interest lies the orienting reflex, but these states are not identical. Having orientated in the situation, a person may stop interested in it or, conversely, the reflex goes away, but the interest remains.

Interest in the profession, rather, refers to personal qualities, but the recognition of the importance of their work, the desire to improve skills and focus on professional problems suggest the active participation of the intellect.

In order to avoid professional deformation and narrowing of the horizon, professional interest should be combined with curiosity in other areas, intellectual responsiveness to the acquired knowledge. This is how the intellectual state of a person is formed. Examples: the preschool teacher is actively interested in the theater, the turner acquires the skills of the driver, the programmer learns the basics of web design, etc.

Curiosity

This state is adjacent to the interest. Facts about whom curiosity manifests, captures, contains intrigue, prompts for active action to clarify the situation. Characterize such an intellectual state of a person of the word "interesting", "exciting", "curious", etc.

There are two types of curiosity: self-interest and curiosity. In the first case, the individual strives to know everything for the purpose of self-admiration, he is interested in matters and things, to which he has nothing to do. Curious is the desire to receive systematic knowledge for good purposes.

Creative Inspiration

This state is a synthesis of emotional and intellectual components. Most often, inspiration is experienced by representatives of creative professions (artists, composers, writers), but something similar is familiar to each of us. These are the moments of finding a solution to a mathematical problem, the way to fix a broken machine, writing a course, etc.

The state of sudden enlightenment, when it suddenly becomes clear how to act, in psychology is called insight. This is an amazing intellectual state of a person. Examples of words that come to mind at such moments: "Eureka!", "Hooray! Found! "," As I did not guess! ".

During insight, an unusual burst of energy is felt, perception is aggravated, imagination throws up original combinations of images, workability goes off scale, everything seems fine.

In fact, the state of insight is not sudden at all. Just all the thinking work leading to the achievement of the goal was at a subconscious level, and at the right moment the consciousness received the right answers.

Monotony (boredom)

This intellectual state is characteristic of a person who is devoid of communication with other people or is forced to engage in a monotonous routine work for a long time. Manifestations of monotony are more characteristic of taiga residents, inhabitants of lands beyond the Arctic Circle, but people experiencing boredom meet anywhere.

A person suffering from monotony is not able to establish relationships with other people and organize his activities in such a way as to experience moral satisfaction. Sometimes monotony arises from the large amount of free time, which you do not want to occupy. Boredom is also caused by serious troubles, experienced grief, chronic fatigue.

Chronic boredom is one of the problems of modern society. People are increasingly turning to specialists about the fact that they do not see incentives for life, do not know how to cheer themselves. In the course are short-term methods of obtaining pleasure (cigarettes, alcohol, promiscuous sex, etc.), but they do not get rid of the blues. To rectify the situation helps identify personal and socially significant motives, ways to make the job attractive, finding partners for communication.

Intellectual state of a person: a category of state (examples)

Everything that happens to an individual is denoted by the language units that are used in speech. In Russian, there are words that indicate the intellectual state of a person: "interesting," "clear," "understandable," etc. In another way they are called predicates. Some researchers attribute these lexical units to adverbs.

Vocabulary, characterizing the intellectual state of a person (a category of state) includes words that are part of the grammatical basis or simply in the composition of impersonal sentences. There are no specific morphemic traits in these words. By case, person and number, the categories of states are not changed. Like adverbs, most of the lexical units denoting the intellectual state of a person have a suffix -o: "boring," "surprising," etc.

In the sentence of the vocabulary of the category of state, it agrees with its own names in the dative case ( Ivan understood the condition of the problem ) or is used in the generalized sense (it is clear that we will not be able to fly to the plane ).

Features of mental states

Any intellectual state of a person is integral, mobile and relatively stable. Manifestations of this or that condition characterize the psyche as a whole. So, if an individual is confident in his beliefs, then he has a system of knowledge, does not doubt the rightness and shows willpower for successful practical activity.

The mobility of mental states lies in the fact that, although they are more prolonged than processes, they nevertheless proceed in time, have a beginning, dynamics of development and completion. Stable states eventually become personal qualities (concentration, thoughtfulness, etc.).

Mental processes, states and properties are closely related. In certain combinations they form the individual appearance of a person.
