Salicylic ointment: use in skin diseases

Active component of salicylic ointment is salicylic acid - an effective local anti-inflammatory agent. At present it is produced in an industrial way, but for the first time this substance was isolated from natural raw materials - willow bark. In honor of this tree it was called ("willow" in Latin - salix). In addition to anti-inflammatory, salicylic ointment also has keratolytic action: it helps exfoliate the skin and, as a consequence, it regenerates.

Salicylic ointment, the use of which can be recommended for infectious and other skin lesions, is released in varying concentrations - 2%, 5% or 10%. It is shown, first of all, with acne: reviews suggest that this tool helps in the shortest possible time to get rid of unaesthetic and painful rashes. Cosmetologists recommend using problematic skin to cook on the basis of a two percent salicylic ointment night cream, taking it in equal parts with zinc ointment and antiseptic cream "Bepanten plus", the active ingredient of which is dexpanthenol. During the first week it is applied to the face every evening, and then, after reaching the visible result - two or three times a week. Salicylic ointment, the use of which in this case gives excellent results, has a drying effect, so the possessor of sensitive skin should use it with caution.

The drug is successfully used in the complex treatment of seborrhea, psoriasis, ichthyosis, as well as pyoderma, diaper rash, eczema. In these cases, use a means of 2% concentration, and for burns - 5%. It is applied to the affected areas of the skin, which should be pre-treated, gently removing the dead particles. Open the wound with an antiseptic. If blisters form on the skin as a result of burns, they are opened before application, and the wound surface is treated with any antiseptic solution. Salicylic ointment, the use of which allows you to significantly improve the condition of the skin, is applied in a thin layer (it is better to do this at night). On top of the affected area is covered with a sterile napkin - it is desirable to fix it with a bandage. Change the bandage at least once in two or three days.

To eliminate horniness of the skin and calluses 10% salicylic ointment is used. Its application can continue as long as necessary to achieve and consolidate the desired effect. However, no more than three weeks (the minimum period of treatment is six days). Instead of salicylic, combined sulfuric salicylic ointment is often used: the instruction speaks about its effectiveness in seborrhea and psoriasis. In addition to keratolytic, this drug also has antimicrobial and antiparasitic action.

During the application of salicylic ointment, especially high concentration, there may be side effects - skin itching, irritation, burning. This is due to individual intolerance to salicylic acid. In this case, treatment should be discontinued and consult a doctor.

Accidental administration of the drug inside leads to quite unpleasant consequences: nausea and vomiting, painful sensations in the esophagus and stomach. Sometimes patients need to wash the stomach and forced diuresis. In general, salicylic ointment (the reviews confirm this) is a sufficiently safe drug that effectively cleans the skin.

Ointment should not be used simultaneously with other external means, without previously discussing this possibility with a doctor. Store it at a temperature of up to + 25 degrees, in a place inaccessible to children, no more than three years. Contraindication to its use is an individual intolerance. In addition, since the effect of this drug on the body of pregnant and lactating women has not been studied, it is better to refrain from using it.
