History

In 1872, the founder of the scientific approach to nutrition of sick people and the use of food as a therapeutic factor was born. Manuil Isaakovich Pevzner. It is he who owns all the initiatives to create a clinic of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences "Institute of Nutrition" in the distant 1921. Under his leadership was established under the People's Commissar for Health of the USSR department of diet and diseases of the digestive organs. Then, in 1930, the Central Scientific Institute of Nutrition of the People's Commissariat of the RSFSR was opened, and in its structure there was a department headed by MI Pevzner.

The staff of the original clinic was fully preserved. In those days the institution was located along the Bolshoy Nikolovorobinsky lane and consisted of one hundred and twenty beds. Here, kidney diseases, obesity, diabetes and gastrointestinal ailments were treated. In 1944 the Institute of Nutrition gave to the Academy of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and therefore it was renamed. In 1992, he returned under the aegis of the Russian Federation and again became known as the Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.

War

In the difficult years of the war, new methods and other approaches to the problems of therapeutic nutrition, most often associated with alimentary dystrophy, were required. A technique for restoring the body with different degrees of malnutrition was developed and implemented in a short time, the widest range of products, including wild plants, including herbs, was used.

And long after the end of the war, the Institute of Nutrition of the RAMS still conducted all sorts of research on the role of vitamins, considering the pathogenesis of a number of diseases: beriberi, anemia, chronic inflammatory processes, non-scarring ulcers and many more. Went search for food sources of the necessary vitamins. Thus, Professor MS Marshak carried out the development of preventive nutrition for workers in the industry and then introduced it into the harmful industries of the country.

Books

With the help of fundamental scientific research, a theoretical substantiation was given to various effects of nutrition on the body's systems and organs, on its regulatory mechanisms, reactivity, metabolism, and much more.

The results of many years of work carried out by the Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Science were carefully systematized, and generalizations were embodied in M. Pevzner's repeatedly reissued book "The Basis of Clinical Nutrition." New editions of this book took into account each time the current research results and were substantially supplemented. This is now the reference book of doctors-nutritionists.

Later, the institute was headed by Professors F. K. Menshikov and I. S. Savoschenko, and the work of their famous predecessor continued. Scientific staff improved, medical nutrition was organized.

New diets for hypertension, myocardial infarction, and enteral nutrition techniques for surgical patients of certain categories were developed and introduced into healthcare practice. 70th years

In the 1970s, the clinic was headed by Professor M. A. Samsonov, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, and then the concept of a balanced diet with multiple nosological forms in different phases and stages of the disease, to varying degrees of metabolic disorders and all kinds of associated pathology, was further developed. The optimum quantity and quality composition of protein for a diet with chronic renal failure, rheumatism, nephrotic syndrome, enterocolitis, chronic hepatitis, and also the qualitative composition and amount of carbohydrates and fats in the diet of a patient with atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia were calculated.

In addition, the amount and ratio of salt, potassium and sodium in diets with cardiovascular insufficiency, hypertension, and a number of other diseases were correlated. Dietotherapy for obesity and individual reduction of calorie content are developed. The mechanisms of post-resection syndrome were closely studied, as a result, numerous diets were developed with organic and functional complications after gastric resection.

80th years

In 1986, the clinic moved to a new building, where new departments were created: clinical dietology, clinical biochemistry, and the hospital bed capacity was increased to two hundred units. This helped both the scientific work and the practices of the Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Clinic of therapeutic nutrition received feedback constantly, and most often they were positive. Scientific and practical work was already done with the help of electronic computers and computer programs.

The nutrition of a healthy person and a patient was evaluated, methods for testing patients, including psychological ones, were created, rations of special chemical composition were created under the auspices of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. The Institute of Nutrition at Kashirka, in the person of scientists and developers, received excellent reviews from health practitioners introducing new techniques.
