Installation of a chimney from sandwich pipes. Scheme of a chimney from sandwich pipes

An obligatory element of any fireplace or stove is a chimney - a channel through which the products of combustion of fuel leave the chimney . The presence of the chimney not only ensures the cleanliness of the air in the room where the furnace is located, but also creates the conditions for the appearance and preservation of the thrust necessary for the emergence and maintenance of the combustion process.

Nowadays, one of the most popular materials from which chimneys are built are stainless sandwich pipes. They are fairly simple to assemble and operate, are relatively inexpensive and have good chimney properties and qualities. Installation of a chimney from sandwich pipes, its features in street and building conditions, as well as possible problems with the operation of the chimney will be discussed in detail in this article.

Sandwich Pipe Diagram

First let's see what the scheme of the chimney from sandwich pipes is. It reminds in its structure of a sandwich (hence the name "sandwich"). In its design there are two pipes of different diameters, one of which is located inside the other.

Between these two products is the material that creates and maintains the thermal insulation - basalt fiber. The thickness of this insulation is selected individually for each pipe, and in particular a chimney: it depends on the diameter of the structure itself, as well as on the temperature range to which the pipe will be exposed.

Production methods

In most cases, sandwich tubes are made from stainless steel sheet, and welding is done with argon, which ensures the similarity of the properties of the welds and the properties of the material from which the product is made. In some situations, when it is necessary to create a system for evacuating gases from powerful solid fuel heaters, a heat resistant stainless steel is used to create a smoke exhaust system, in other cases a "standard" material is suitable for constructing a chimney.

Installation and isolation of the branch pipe

The design and installation of this system is quite simple, and almost everyone can build a sandwich-chimney with their own hands. The most important thing in this process is compliance with technology and safety rules. Proceeding from them and from the calculation of the high quality of the construction, the installation of a chimney from sandwich pipes should be made according to certain rules.

An even entrance of the nozzle into the ceiling is provided by a marking, along which an opening is made in the ceiling. In order for the chimney to correctly pass through the ceiling, it is necessary to use a special branch pipe, prefabricated in advance. In order to isolate, first the walls of the branch pipe, and then its inner part, joints and places of abutment to the wall are covered with mineral wool.

After you have finished work with insulation, the installation of a chimney from sandwich pipes begins. Do not forget that an additional layer of heat-insulating material should be placed in places where the branch pipe passes through fire-hazardous areas, for example, through wooden ceilings and walls.

Allowance for installation distances

Making calculations on the basis of which the installation of a chimney from sandwich-pipes will be made, the following standards of distances should be observed:

  • A flat roof must be at least 50 cm from the riser;
  • If the pipe is located at a distance of about 1.5 m from the roof ridge, then its upper edge should extend over the ridge at a distance of 50 cm;
  • If from the ridge to the chimney a distance of 1.5 to 3 m is planned, the height of the chimney must be equal to the height of the ridge;
  • In the case where this distance exceeds 3 m, the highest point of the structure should be located at the level at which the line connecting the roof ridge with a slope of 10 degrees passes.

Special attention should be paid to the roof of flammable materials: in this case, the upper edge of the flue system should rise above the ridge by about one and a half meters.

Horizontal gasket

Installation of a chimney from sandwich pipes is worth starting with laying its horizontal part and its connection to the furnace (fireplace). The connection of the chimney and the boiler is made with the help of special connecting elements fixed with stainless steel clamps. The installation must start from the boiler, and every new attached element of the system must be put on the previous one, and not inserted into it. This type of connection provides protection against gas leakage.

When laying the horizontal part of the chimney, it must be placed under a slight downward slope to prevent condensate from entering the boiler: the edge of the pipe that is escaping from the boiler to the outside should be about 5 mm below the smoke outlet.

It is very important to pay attention to good sealing of the pipe in the hole in the wall. The choice of sealant is made depending on the material from which the surface is made: if it is wooden, the riser is placed in the asbestos sleeve and fixed with a non-combustible product. Partitions made of bricks or concrete allow the sandwich tube to be fixed with a usual mounting foam.

Installation outside the building

Next, the installation of the sandwich-chimney continues on the street: at the end of the exhausted pipe it is necessary to install a condenser. This is done in the same way as before: the device is put on the pipe and tightly clamped with a clamp.

Continuing to collect a chimney from a sandwich-pipe, it is necessary to organize its reliable fastening on the wall. Using anchor screws or dowels, in the middle and slightly higher from the upper edge of the condenser, it is necessary to screw the supporting frame made of steel. Be sure to take care of the compensation plate, which is embedded in the system itself.

Thus, first the condenser should be put on a piece of support about 50 cm long, on it to install the farm, in which the compensator is pre-inserted, and fix the resulting structure to the wall. Then the remaining chimney pipes - a sandwich made of stainless steel - rise to the required height, taking into account the distances of the upper edge of the pillar from the ridge, described above.

Sandwich tubes inside the building

To conduct a chimney indoors it is necessary by the same principles and in the same sequence as from the street, but in this case it is necessary to take into account several special moments:

  1. Installation of the compensator is not made on the farm, but on the floor of the house.
  2. To ensure the chimney passage of the roof, you need to cut a hole in the roof corresponding to the diameter of the pipe, from the outside, insert into it a pre-prepared pipe, to the top of which a special wide stainless steel plate should be welded.
  3. This plate must be fixed on the roof using self-tapping screws and sealed with bituminous mastic to prevent rain and melt water from getting inside.
  4. Further on the branch pipe of this plate, it is necessary to install the upper part of the riser and put on it a waterproofing skirt.
  5. In the end, a headband is installed on the chimney from the sandwich pipe.

Special nuances of installation

Pay attention to the fact that the pipes should pass freely through the holes prepared for them: do not let them come into contact with the ceiling slabs. Also, the riser must never come into contact with electrical wiring lines, gas and water pipelines, the integrity of which may be impaired due to temperature changes when the product touches them.

Be sure to leave the empty space between the sandwich tube and the nozzle: this will ensure that the device can be ventilated and cooled. After completing the installation of the chimney, check with the level of its verticality and install the elements that will ensure the protection of the branch pipe. Also, you should know that the very first element of the construction, going directly from the furnace itself, in no case can be made from a sandwich pipe.

Prevention and care

Like any other structure, in order to increase the quality and duration of its service, the chimney needs high-quality and timely maintenance. Diagnostics includes checking for tightness and integrity of the joints, and maintenance - cleaning from soot, plaque and nests, which the construction could be made by birds.

Verification and cleaning should be done at least once a year, and ideally, as recommended by specialists, twice, and one of the preventive inspections should be performed in early spring. Cleaning the chimney pipe-sandwich from stainless steel in most cases is done with a metal brush. The most convenient for such a procedure will be a product with a long, flexible handle.

Errors that may occur

It is possible that even if assembling, laying and installation of a chimney from a sandwich-pipe has been made taking into account all the norms and requirements, some problems may arise during the operation of this design. Let's try to figure out what the reason for these difficulties might be:

  • If you notice that thick chimney smoke is pouring from the chimney's pipe, make sure that the height of the structure corresponds to the above standards: perhaps the whole thing really is in it. If the requirements for the altitude parameters are met, but the problem of smoke with an admixture of soot remains unresolved, try additional cleaning of the entire riser.
  • Also, one of the problems often faced by owners of chimneys from sandwich pipes is the occurrence of condensation. If she touched you, also warm the design of her furnace, and this trouble will be eliminated.

Proper design, accurate installation and adherence to the technology of operation of the chimney from the sandwich pipes will ensure a long and trouble-free use of the system as a whole.
