How to sew a suit of squirrels with their own hands? Carnival costume "Belka" at home

Each parent on the eve of the New Year asks about where to take the child carnival costume. Girls and boys at festive concerts in kindergartens often play the role of bunnies, squirrels. Is not that cute? And what if you do not buy and do not rent a standard banal outfit, but sew a suit of squirrels yourself? You can also try and create your own original model, putting all the parental love in it.

Mums need only to try hard and think things over. Dads can also take part in creating a unique outfit.

Required material

Everything must be done quickly if there is very little time left before the holiday. So, in order to sew a carnival costume "Belka", we will need:
- meter of steel wire;
- 1.5 meters of aluminum wire;
- artificial fur of red or brown color (for a width of 1.5 meters we need no more than 20 cm);
- the cheapest belt of medium thickness of any color.

Skeleton for the tail

If you have an extra strap for adults, it must be shortened at the waist of the child. Then cut it in the middle, bend on both sides about 3 cm and stitch it. In the two loops formed, dress the skeleton of the future tail. It must be made of steel wire, which is bent in the form of a squirrel tail.

The next step is to try to strengthen the resulting structure. To do this, wrap the frame with a thinner wire made of aluminum. This procedure will add a bit of volume to the future tail.

Sew a tail

It's time to move on to the most responsible step. We sew the tail of the fur that was bought in advance. A 45 cm high frame should be produced. The fur should be folded in half and sewed in such a way that the length of the fur cover was slightly larger than 45 cm.

Starting to sew a suit of squirrel with your own hands, the main thing is not to worry that the seams will be inaccurate and will be visible. The pile of artificial fur will hide all the minor drawbacks of the seam on the tail. From the side it will even seem that the canvas is just one piece.

All you need to sew with your hands, folding the details with fur inside. When all the stitches are made, just turn out the fur, you get a beautiful white tail. It remains only to dress him on the previously constructed frame.

Way out

If you have not sewed anything before, you can face a problem. From the severity of the design, the tail will not hold and will constantly fall. But there is a way out. On the back side, you can sew two thin loops of fur. They will be dressed on their backs on the basis of a knapsack and thus keep the tail in a vertical position, like a real squirrel.

Skirt from fur

When the tail is finished, we can start sewing the rest of the costume elements. Next on the line we have a fur skirt. And here no one should ever have problems. It is enough just to measure the necessary length and make one connecting seam. Fur fabric, bought in advance, stretches a bit, so the skirt will sit straight on the figure. To dilute a fur suit it is possible embroidered shirt. In general, the image will be more than successful. So the costume of the squirrel is sewn by hand.

Improvised ears from hair

If the girl's hair is rather long, you can improvise: do not cling your ears to the rim or tassels on an elastic band, and use the option more interesting. We divide hair by a parting in two parts and we tie high tails. We form small knobs from them and fasten them with red hair to the color of the suit. On impromptu ears can also be attached to a small piece of fur, and the costume of a squirrel, sewed by hand, is ready completely.

Ears for squirrels

If your child's haircut or hair is very short, then the tail will not work. It is worth thinking about artificial ears. They can be cut from pieces of red felt on a pattern and framed around the edges with fur or make fur brushes. Attach the ears to the hoop with liquid nails. You can even sew them on an elastic band, but it will not be so spectacular.

Sew the ears in the second way

And here's another interesting way how to make beautiful squirrel ears. It is suitable for small children. In addition to the rim for hair, it is possible to use rubber bands, to which the ears will be attached. That they stood upright and were voluminous, you need to use foam rubber for filling.

We make a pattern

So, you need small patches of white satin, red flowers, foam rubber, black threads for brushes and elastic bands or a rim for work. Patterns must be made in the form of a leaf, the size is chosen at its discretion. Cut 4 pieces from satin (2 white and 2 red) and 2 details made of foam rubber. Do not forget that the details of the atlas will be sewn, so you need to leave a small allowance for the seam.

Brushes

In order to make brushes on the ears, you need to take a small piece of cardboard and make it about 15 turns with a thread. The last turn fixes a bunch of threads on one side. With the other scissors you need to cut the thread and release it from the cardboard. You can say the beam is ready. It should be primed with a black thread from below for reliability.

The main stages of work

Now back to the question of how to make a costume of squirrels, namely the ears. White and orange details of future ears should be put face down and fastened with pins. Brush into the interior so that only the tail of it is sticking out at the top of the ears. Carefully stitch the part, leaving the bottom not stitched about 2 cm, in order to fill the holes with foam through this hole.

Duplicate one more ear. After this, the sewn parts are removed. It is already possible to say that it is very beautiful. But you need to do the work further and fill them with foam rubber to create the volume. Foam must be inserted carefully, so that it does not shrink inside, but lay flat. After that, the ears are compressed from below and stitched, now they look quite like real ones. It remains only to sew them to the rubber bands or to the rim. All you can try on. And if you make a nut from foam rubber and beautifully decorate it, you will get a suit of squirrels from the "Ice Age".
