How to replace broken glass in a door

Broken glass in the door is not only a deterioration of the soundproofing of the room, but also a ruined interior in the house or apartment. And, however that may be, the question of correcting the current situation becomes urgent. You can, of course, buy and install a new door, but it's much cheaper to have a banal glass replacement.

Modern interior doors are equipped with glasses of different quality: from brittle to particularly durable and even fire-resistant. All sorts of color solutions allow you to choose the options that fit perfectly into the interior. But a strong closing of the door, accidental impact or slamming it with a banal draft can damage even such products. And if it so happened that you broke the glass at the door, then the first thing to do is to remove all the pieces so as not to cut yourself. Start with large parts of the glass, then vacuum the floor and door to remove small and poorly visible residues.

The replacement of broken glass is carried out in several stages, each of which is very important. In general, this procedure is not particularly complex and does not require the artist any special skills or abilities, but still have to make efforts, especially if the glass was of a non-standard form. Dismantling

First of all, remove the broken glass from the door leaf. To perform this operation, it is first necessary to remove the frame or fillets that hold it. Do this carefully so as not to damage the decorative layer, as they will have to be mounted back. For convenience, the door is best removed from the hinges, because in the horizontal plane with it to work much easier than in the vertical.

Preparation of the cloth

Next, prepare a glass sheet, from which a new insert will be cut. The color and structure of the glass can be chosen at your own discretion. But in order to prevent or at least minimize the likelihood of a repetition of the situation, one should look at the options with increased strength. But do not take the thickest and ruggedest specimen, as glass may not be suitable for your door. Therefore, before going to the store, it will not be superfluous to make a gap measurement under the glass. The purchased cloth should be wiped with rags or cleaned with soapy water. Also, before starting work, it must be kept at room temperature, otherwise it's easy to get a new broken glass.

Cutting

After the preparation of the canvas nothing prevents to proceed to its marking. If the form of the insert is simple and single, then it can be immediately drawn on the canvas. If it is non-standard or several, then it is better to practice first on a piece of paper on a scale, for example 1 to 10, in order to reduce the amount of waste. If there are large sheets of paper or paperboard, then the pattern can be drawn differently: attach them to the hole in the door and outline the contour with a pencil or felt-tip pen, then cut it with scissors, and make a picture on the glass can according to the template.

Cutting

Do this on a flat surface. When carrying out this work, a glass cutter and ruler are used along a straight line.
