How to disable Windows SmartScreen in a few simple ways

Beginning with the eighth version of Windows, many inexplicable SmartScreen service appeared in the system, which obviously does not manifest itself, but at the start of some applications it displays a message that the program can be potentially dangerous or undesirable for execution, although in fact there is no danger Does not represent itself. Now it will be considered how to disable Windows SmartScreen. As examples we use operating systems 8 and 10.

What is the SmartScreen filter in Windows operating systems?

Before solving the set task, it is necessary to understand what kind of service it is and why it is needed. As already mentioned, everything began with the G-8. Developers have tried to create a universal tool that would assess the security level of an application. In this regard, there are many problems.

Firstly, the filter itself when triggered is triggered by the type of "cloud" and sends information about the application to Microsoft servers, where the reconciliation with the database, which keeps records of potentially dangerous or unwanted programs and applets. Secondly, what is most sad, the paradox is that the filter can work even if the application you are launching in this database simply does not exist. This is where many users start to puzzle over the problem of how to disable SmartScreen (in Windows 8, for example).

Feasibility of use

A little more patience. Of course, thanks to Microsoft specialists for taking care of the security of user systems and computer terminals, but I think the service itself is not fully thought out. In addition, today there are certain groups of people who do not want the data on used software products on their machines to be sent to the Microsoft analysis center.

Unsurprisingly, in most cases this filter is interpreted as one of the means by which, for example, the same "ten" simply spies on the user. This is partly true. So, although many do not recommend doing this, disabling SmartScreen can partially save such surveillance. Well, now we go directly to practical actions.

Windows SmartScreen Filter: How to disable the service in the simplest way using the example of Windows 8

Since the filter originally appeared in the G8, let's take this system as an example. How to disable SmartScreen in Windows 8 in just a couple of minutes? There is nothing easier.

To get started, go through the desktop icon on the desktop and go to the corresponding section, right-click in the free space where the disks and drives are displayed, and call up the properties menu (this can be done with the right click on the computer icon itself).

In the System window at the bottom right, select the Support Center line, and then go to the Windows SmartScreen settings. In the new window, you will be offered three options: an administrator confirmation request, a warning before execution, and no action whatsoever. Choose the third item and save the changes. After that, annoying messages will stop appearing.

Disabling via the "Control Panel" in the example of Windows 10

Another method that allows to understand how to disable Windows SmartScreen, say, in the "top ten", is simple enough and does not require special knowledge.

First, go to the "Control Panel" (you can call it from the list of tools by pressing the keys Win + X). Here we are interested in the security and maintenance section, in which there is a link for configuring SmartScreen parameters. When you enter the settings, the same menu will be displayed as in the previous example, where you can select the desired action and save the changes made.

Editing Group Policy Settings

Another effective, albeit more complex, way to resolve the issue of "how to disable Windows SmartScreen" is to modify the Group Policy settings that are accessed by entering the gpedit.msc commands in the "Run" menu. This method is convenient because you can disable the filter at the level of local users, and not for the entire system as a whole.

So, here we first use the computer configuration, go to the administrative templates, and then through the components section we reach the "Explorer". On the right side of the list is the line we need. When you enter the settings, you change the preferences in the same way as described above. Separately it is necessary to say that if you make adjustments by this method, then the technique shown in the first two cases will be unavailable.

Disabling the filter through the system registry

Finally, the question of how to disable Windows SmartScreen is solved by changing the registry keys. If you understand, in general, this method duplicates changing the settings of Group Policy, however, and it can not be ignored.

Here you need to log in to the HKLM branch by calling the editor with the regedit command, where, going down the Software partition, then Microsoft, then Windows, then CurrentVersion, get to the final destination Explorer. Here is the setting for SmartScreen (by default it is set to Enable).

We change the options, as before, only now they will be presented in English:

  • RequireAdmin - the default prompt for administrator confirmation.
  • Prompt - confirmation before execution.
  • Off - complete shutdown.

The result

As you can see, you can turn off the filter in a few simple ways, which, in general, do not require special knowledge. The question is: which method to choose? Naturally, the fastest option is the one described in the first example, however, if you are administering a computer that has multiple users, it is better to access the group policy settings at the access level with admin rights.
