We get acquainted with modern constructions. Water towers

Perhaps it is difficult to meet a modern person who would never have come across such a notion as a "water tower". We know that this structure plays an important role in the life of both a huge city and a modest village. However, what are water towers? Do they have any characteristic features? Let's try to figure it out.

Water towers. general description

This structure is intended for both regulation of the delivery head and for monitoring the water flow rate in each network. In addition, its reserves are created, and the schedule of operation of all local pumping stations is equalized with the utmost accuracy.

A conventional water tower includes a cylindrical tank, designed, of course, for water, and a supporting structure - the so-called trunk.

Why this design? Imagine our usual day. When do we need the most water? Correctly, in the morning and evening after returning from work, all the rest of the time we just do not go home. So, in the daytime, excess water accumulates inside the tower, then to be fed into our home without interruption. As a rule, the height, i.е. The distance from the bottom of the tank to the surface of the earth, rarely exceeds 20-25 meters, in the rarest cases of 30. The capacity of such a tank can be very different, ranging from several tens of square meters and ending with several thousand. Everything depends on where this structure will be located - in a village, in a metropolis or at an industrial enterprise. There is nothing surprising in that the trunk, as, indeed, the tank itself, must be very strong, so it is performed mainly from reinforced concrete or steel and only in rare cases from a particularly durable brick.

In addition, special pipes are attached to the tower, necessary for tapping or supplying water. The design is also equipped with special devices that must prevent overflow of the tank, and a system designed to measure the water level and, when necessary, transfer this information to special control points.

Typical water towers. What are they?

The most characteristic design is the water tower of Rozhnovsky. It is designed to regulate both the flow rate and head pressure around the clock. In addition, a necessary water supply is created, the work schedule of pumping stations is equalized.

Like all similar, this structure consists of a tank and water support. A cover with a hatch specially made in it is designed to inspect the device from the inside. A characteristic feature is the fact that special staples of two types are welded to the inner walls: for the ice-holder and those necessary for the maintenance personnel to go down without any additional problems for carrying out the necessary set of measures.

There is also an external staircase, which is equipped with a safety fence. Depending on the requirements, the volume of the tower can be from 10 to almost 150 cubic meters.

It should be noted and the fact that in order to protect the water supply from pollution or, for example, freezing, the tank of the tower is surrounded with a special protection in advance. Water is supplied inward with pumps.

The most unusual water towers of the world . Is it possible to live there?

It turns out that this is quite acceptable, and the house in the water tower is not a new idea of modern architects.

For example, in such an unusual dwelling already lives an ordinary family in the northwestern part of England. The core of their house is the old, 130-year-old tower, which was modernized by the famous British architectural studio.

Harris bought it about 13 years ago, hoping to save the historic building by settling in it and conducting in parallel the entire complex of necessary reconstruction works.

Now the building looks like a symbiosis of history and modernism. In the center of the construction there is a tower, and around it, forming a semicircle, a new two-storey building is built.
