How to choose skirting boards for countertops
The times of separately standing kitchen tables, boxes, plates and sinks ended with large gaps between the elements of the headset, where crumbs were constantly falling and where various kinds of dirt were collected. Because of this, the building was difficult to keep in perfect purity. And in a modern kitchen all these elements of the headset are joined together thanks to the table top. Thus, the problem of gaps between kitchen modules was solved, and the finishing stage of kitchen arrangement was the installation of a plinth for countertops. Thanks to this small detail, a smooth transition from the table to the wall panel is achieved and the gap between them is reliably closed. After all, no matter how you push the table close to the wall, the gap will still remain and will necessarily become a place of accumulation of dirt and debris.
With the advantages of this element of the kitchen headset everything is clear, now you need to decide on the type and color of the plinth for the countertops. Here everything is quite simple: you need to focus on the size of the gap and the material from which the table top is made. So, here are some tips on choosing the color and material of the plinth:
- If the table top is wooden, then the plinth is better to take a wooden one;
- For natural and artificial stone suitable marble or metal plastic skirting
- Aluminum plinth for the table top will look good in combination with stainless steel;
- Plastic skirting boards are universal, they have a wide variety of colors and are perfectly matched with all types of countertops.
In order to perfectly match the plinth with the color of the table top, it is better to order them simultaneously from the same manufacturer. Also note that the edge holders of the universal skirting boards are transparent and not stand out from the overall picture. After all, aesthetic appearance is as important as practicality.
Of course, in terms of practicality and durability, wooden and plastic skirting are inferior to aluminum and metal-plastic. The latter are much more resistant to high temperatures, which is especially important in the area of the hob.
Usually plinths for countertops are sold in sets, each of which includes:
- Plinth 1 or 2 meters in length;
- Fasteners for plinth;
- Decorative profile;
- Corners and stubs.
The installation of the skirting board on the countertop is similar to the installation of a floor. It is measured and cut, the fixing elements are fixed horizontally, then fixed on special latches. Depending on the type of skirting board it is attached to self-tapping screws or liquid nails. To ensure that moisture and dirt do not get under it, the edges must be thoroughly treated with a sealant. The final stage of the installation is fixing the plugs.
