How to Build a Brick Fireplace with Your Hands

How to build a brick fireplace with your own hands? If you asked yourself this question, then this article is for you.

First of all you need to have a desire, without which any work is either doomed to failure or will be performed somehow.

The construction of a fireplace is a serious matter and it should not be taken into consideration "through the sleeves". Otherwise, you will waste not only time, but money.

But, we will assume that since you read this article, then you have the desire to build a brick fireplace with your own hands, you are determined and difficulties do not frighten you, so you can proceed to the matter.

So, in order to build a fireplace by yourself, you must first of all be patient, as this will take you at least a month. First you need to decide on the order. Here it is necessary to note two important points: first, we should pay attention to the area of the room for which the fireplace is designed (its correct operation directly depends on the correspondence of its dimensions to the volume of the room); Secondly, analyze the complexity of the order (if you are an amateur in the stove business, then choose a simple version of the fireplace or an order of medium complexity).

After choosing the order, you can proceed to purchase and prepare materials, tools and devices. As a rule, the specification of the materials and instruments required for construction must be attached to the order of the fireplace, indicating the required number, dimensions and other parameters.

Here is an approximate (but not final and optional) list of what you will need:

- ceramic and / or refractory bricks;

- clay and sand for making clay mud-sand mortar;

- furnace equipment: cleaning, blowing and ash door, valve;

- sheet stainless steel for screen;

- Stainless steel pipes for the chimney (possibly the chimney will be laid out of bricks);

- ruberoid;

- Mason's tool: trowel (trowel), hammer-pick, string, cord and plummet, gon, building level, rule, roulette;

- Angle grinder (Bulgarian) for processing and cutting bricks;

- containers of various volumes (buckets, boxes, etc.) for mixing and storing mortar, soaking bricks, delivering water and loose materials, etc.

- a sieve and / or metal mesh for sifting sand and straining the clay mass;

- forests and scaffolding.

If all of the above you were able to purchase, you can start building a fireplace. The skills of working with a brick are desirable, but not necessary. Just keep in mind that if you do not have the experience of brickwork, then the independent construction of the fireplace is likely to prove to be quite a protracted affair.

We should say a few words about the theoretical preparation, since one desire and the availability of all the necessary materials for the device of a home will not be enough. It is important and necessary to know the theory: how to choose the location of the fireplace, how to prepare a masonry mortar, how to masonry, cut and process bricks.

Do you know how the fireplace works, what structural elements does it consist of, and what is the principle of its operation? Not having answers to these and many other questions, the fireplace you will not build!
