Hofbrøy: beer that the whole world knows about

"Hofbroi" - beer, whose history is calculated not by tens, but by hundreds of years. The German name Hofbräu translates as "court beer". Indeed, the "Hofbroi" was the court brewery of the German Dukes. It was in the distant 1589 in Munich, established by the Duke of Wilhelm V Pious. Today, a beverage under this brand is made by a brewing company called "Hofbrä Munich". Every self-respecting German considers it an honor to spend an evening in the company of friends for a bottle of Hofbroe. Well, tourists who come to Germany, first of all, strive to purchase this product, treat them and buy a jar-another as a gift to their relatives.

History of the creation of the drink

"Hofbroi" - beer, the abbreviated name of which sounds like HB from the German name Hofbräu. But this is not only called intoxicating alcohol - it is also the abbreviated name of two Munich restaurants, in which they once boiled a drink - "Hofbräckeller" and "Hofbräuhaus". Well, the opening of these institutions and the appearance of the alcohol itself was preceded by a beautiful story.

Before the Germans started cooking "Hofbroi" (beer), they used to drink drinks from other producers. And it was all so: the courtiers of the Bavarian Duke William W were distinguished by extraordinary requests and unsatisfied thirst. They did not like the beer that they brewed directly in Munich, so they delivered a drink from the town of Einbeck, in Lower Saxony. But it was too expensive, and the duke ordered the courtiers to think about the problem of balancing pleasure and the costs allocated to it.

At the end of September, 1589, the four advisers of William V advanced the tempting idea of building their own brewery. The duke was extremely pleased with this idea, and on the same day he invited Haimeran Pongratz, the chief brewer from the Heisenfeld monastery. He offered the man the position of superintendent, the first master and designer of a new brewery. This was the beginning of a great cause, and the brewers began to brew the most delicious beer.

Monopoly on wheat beer

Over time, the brewery of the Duke of Wilhelm Pious inherited his son Maximilian I, whose beer preferences differed from his father's preferences. Maximilian did not like the dark heavy drink, which was so popular then. Since he was a great gourmet and cunning in marketing and financial affairs, he quickly podsoetilsya and introduced a monopoly on the production of wheat beer. Thus, all private breweries were forbidden to cook wheat foam alcohol, and its ducal brewery was provided with monopoly positions. The young duke got an additional financial source, producing Hofbrau beer.

New brewery

One day Maximilian learned that his wheat beer is popular. And this popularity is so great that the production located on the old yard can no longer cope with all incoming orders. The ducal court brewery produced 1,444 hectoliters of foam drink during 1605, which was extremely high in those times. Maximilian decides to build a new brewery on Marienplatz in Munich, where she is still today.

Since 1610, Hofbräu beer is allowed to be sold not only to noble persons, but also to the ordinary population. So a foamy drink under this brand begins to conquer the world. Such luxury became available due to the fact that Maximilian needed money to build a new enterprise. The duke realized how much potential his product possessed, and decided to do what was secretly done and so, by the official enterprise. That is, to sell the ordinary population beer is not "from under the floor", but on legal grounds.

In 1810, the heir of the founder of the Hofbräuhaus, Kronprinz Ludwig of Bavaria, married Theresa Saxen-Hildburgauskaya. In honor of their wedding horse rides were organized, which by that time had already been forgotten. The event was held at Theresienwiesen.
