Google celebrated the birthday of a woman who invented potato vodka

July 10, "Google", changing its logo, celebrated the birthday of a woman who gave the world potato vodka. This is Eve Ekeblat, born in Sweden 293 years ago. This woman was an outstanding scientist and talented agronomist, and it was she who first received potato from alcohol.

Alcohol from potatoes and other achievements

Eva Ekeblad, thanks to a series of experiments, was able to extract alcohol from the potatoes, and this literally saved Sweden. In those years alcohol was made mainly from grain, and Eve's research allowed people to give bread, which many lacked. It is believed that it was Ekeblad who was involved in the fact that the country was able to overcome the famine of the 18th century.

Her invention was even presented in the walls of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, moreover, she was even made an active member of the Academy! However, after three years, Eve still "lowered the rank" to honorary members. After all, she was a woman, and for Sweden those years this incident was unprecedented.

Ekeblad also contributed to cosmetology, because the powder, which she began to make from potatoes, was used in skin care products. In addition, this amazing woman invented a method of whitening cotton fabrics.

It's been almost 300 years, but Eve is still remembered. And not only because of her potato vodka.
