The portrait and personal autograph of this figure of culture decorates bottles. And what else is interesting about this drink? What are its gastronomic characteristics? Produces the whiskey "Robert Burns" company Isle of Arran Distillery. Those who at least within the school program know English, will understand that the name of the company is the island of Arran and, accordingly, the distillery on it. Where are the production capacities of the enterprise located and what is the significance of the terroir for the gastronomic qualities of the drink? About this and many other things read in our article.

Robert Burns and the Isle of Arran

The Scottish poet became famous for his poems. But for daily bread he, as is often the case, earned more prosaic. He served as an inspector of distilleries. The state tried to establish a unified standard of quality and, of course, to deduct taxes from profits. Therefore, many handicraft enterprises since 1837 "went into the shadows". Inspect them and arrived on the island of Arran Robert Burns. Long before the appearance of Robert Burns whiskey, the person who gave him the name, appreciated the quality of the local beverage. There is evidence that the poet was extremely gentle about the presence on the island of Arran many illegal distilleries. And he dedicated a whiskey poem, where he called the drink "the spirit of crazy prose." And although the official duty ordered him to close illegal enterprises, he highly valued the experience of local masters of distillation. For more than a hundred years later the poet's name and perpetuated in the name and design of whiskey.

Why Arran?

A small island only twenty miles in length and ten in width is also called "Miniature Scotland". Here there are charming with its harsh beauty landscapes, ancient castles and other attractions. But the main advantage of Arran in terms of production of whiskey was his water. The fact is that the soil of the island is a deposit of sand, gravel, peat, clay and granite. Thus, water undergoes a natural multi-stage cleaning. No chemistry with silver filters is needed! Quality whiskey directly depends on the softness of spring water. So Arran was full of distilleries. The island is even home to several varieties of whiskey. But back to Robert Burns. Whiskey under this brand is produced in the north of the island, near the village of Lokranza. And the water is taken from the spring Ison Bjorah. It passes through natural filters and has a weak smell of smoky peat, which gives the drink a unique softness and aroma.

What we know about the manufacturer

Since 1837 (and not without the efforts of the inspector Robert Burns) on the island of Arran did not work (legally), no one distillery. But the glory of soft water, which passes through natural filters and is saturated with a delicious peat-smoky smell, has not faded. In 1994, the family of Curry settled on the northern tip of the island, near the village of Lokranza, at the foot of the castle of the fourteenth century. The farm is located in a convenient and picturesque valley. From the cold winds it is covered by hills. But the main property of the land was the source of Izon Bjorah. The family of Curry acquired the right to produce whiskey and began to produce alcohols. New brand decided to name in honor of the poet who lived on the island - Robert Burns. Whiskey from "Isle of Arran Distillery" appeared in June 1998, but because of bureaucratic delays it became available to customers only since 2001.

Production

The entire process of making the drink takes place at the Curry family distillery. Grain for the production of alcohols is purchased only from local farmers. I must say that the valley of Lokranza has a surprisingly soft microclimate. The warm breath of the Gulf Stream brings here sea breezes, and from the north the valley is protected by hills. Mountain crystal air, very soft tasty water and the extinct traditions of Scotch tape production make it possible to produce a first-class drink. Malt and grain alcohols were first aged in sherry barrels. Now, for the production of Robert Burns whiskey, containers are used, where they previously used sherry or bourbon. Cold filtration is not carried out. The result is a wonderful drink with a mild flavor and a light aroma of peat haze.

Kinds. Blended whiskey

With all the variety of volumes and types of packaging, "Isle of Arran Distilery" produces two types of products by Robert Burns. Whiskey Blended is produced by blending different malt and grain alcohols. The drink has an amber color. In the fragrant bouquet, notes of baking with almonds and raspberries are felt against the background of the smell of iris and the haze of oak. In taste you can hear a sweet apple and licorice. Smoky peat against this background slips a barely perceptible hint. The drink has a soft structure. Scotch "Robert Burns Blended" conveys the spirit of the island of Arran, recalling the mountains, soft sea breeze and emerald moss, along which flows a clean stream. Fortress drink - 40 degrees. This whiskey is very spicy. Pleasantly warms. It is good in itself and accompanied by a cigar. He also excels in cocktails. Bartenders recommend preparing with him "Apple Sauer", "Doctor House" and "Black Sabbath". This whiskey will emphasize the dignity of coffee in Irish and hot Scottish punch.

"Single Malt"

The second type of whiskey is single Malt. His fortress is slightly higher - 43 percent alcohol. A bottle of Robert Burns (whiskey) of 0.7 liters in a gift tub becomes an excellent present. The bouquet of this strong alcoholic beverage is creamy, with sweetish notes of fresh fruits, honey and roasted pecans. The drink has a smooth pleasant taste with warming tones of vanilla, chocolate and spices. Finish fresh scotch. The aftertaste can be felt hazelnuts and milk chocolate. The color of the drink is sunny, lighter than blended scotch. All whiskey "Isle of Arran Distilery" is produced without using colorants. This drink is also good solo or accompanied by a cigar. In cocktails, it manifests itself more characteristically. But it is easy to drink, despite the high degree.

Robert Burns (whiskey): price

If you still do not know if you will like the taste of Robert Burns Scotch tape, and want to get acquainted with the characteristics of the drink, we recommend that you buy a blended look first. It is available in a volume of half a liter and without a gift box. The bottle is very unpretentious. The cover is screwed, metal. And because the price of the drink in such a package is rather democratic - 354 rubles per bottle. Quite a different price for blended Robert Burns (whiskey, 0.7). The price for a bottle without gift packets reaches 1800 rubles. In tuba this drink can be found for 1585 rubles. The most appreciated is the single malt whiskey. The price for volume in 0,7 liters reaches 3363 rubles. Most of this high cost is achieved through a fancy bottle, filling the cork with plastic, etc.

Whiskey Robert Burns: reviews

Consumers assure that the Scottish scotch of this brand is a pure pleasure. Both types of whiskey are drunk easily, without causing undesirable effects in the body. A complex aroma is perfectly combined with other ingredients in cocktails. The drink is more fully revealed if the glass is warmed a little in the palms of the hands. The taste of both types of whiskey is not at all a cocky, but very soft and smooth. Finish Scotch warm, with hints of vanilla. It is a drink for those who like to feel the faint smell of peat and haze in the whiskey. But in the taste of these drinks, the notes of oak barrels, in which alcohols were kept, are more likely to be felt. The brand is not too "promoted" yet, so the prices for this whiskey are pleasing with availability.
