Growing coriander in greenhouses and on open ground

Coriander, or coriander - a spicy vegetable plant. On a fairly large scale, cilantro is grown in the republics of Transcaucasia, and in recent years - in the Central Chernozem zone and in the southern regions of Ukraine. What is this plant? It grows to a height of 120 cm, ending with umbrellas. During flowering throws out small pale pink flowers. The fruits are small balls that are used as seeds. There are few varieties of coriander on the territory of Russia. The most popular are "October" and "Alekseevsky".

Cultivation of cilantro requires a certain preparation of the soil. The most suitable are super sandy, light and loamy, with a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction medium. This is a cold-resistant plant, so it can be sown already in early spring. During this period, the soil is saturated with a sufficient amount of moisture, so that the first crop has high rates. Seeds are sown by rows located at a distance of 30 cm. In large areas, you can sow two lines, at a distance of 50 cm between the main rows and 20 cm between the pairs. The depth of sowing is not less than 1.5 cm. It is not recommended to use a greater depth. It should not exceed 2.5 cm, otherwise the germination capacity will be longer than the standard two or three weeks.

Cultivation of cilantro can be carried out in several visits. For the constant receipt of greenery, the seed is planted from the beginning of spring and until the middle of summer. In this case, the plant should be cut in the period when the inflorescences are laid. It is necessary to have time before the bud formation phase. This occurs approximately 35-55 days after seed germination. This allows you to grow up to three harvests on the same plot. It should be noted that when land is reused, to obtain a better crop, the soil should be fertilized with nitroammon or superphosphate.

Growing coriander does not require special care for the site. The soil is loosened, relieving the beds of weeds. After germination of seeds, it is necessary to thin the shoots. This is necessary to ensure that there is a wide leaf, since when the leaves are dense the leaves are small, the stems are weak, and the yield is low. It is necessary that the soil does not lack moisture. When dry weather, watering is carried out. When the land dries excessively, arrows appear on the stem early, which leads to a deterioration of the product. Watering is stopped when the seeds ripen.

Those who want an earlier crop of a plant such as coriander, can be grown in greenhouses. The landing here is already in February. On the 40th day after emergence, peduncles are formed. When cutting early grown green, you can leave stems up to 7 centimeters high. But the repeated harvest will be two or three times less than the first one. If the seed is planted in the greenhouse in May-June, the repeated leaves do not grow, and after the first cut the remaining stem dries up.

Everybody has heard about this plant, but not everyone knows what the coriander is useful for. Greens are rich in such vitamins as ascorbic acid, carotene, rutin. In addition, the leaves contain such useful vitamins as B1 and B2. Still this plant is used as a diuretic and antiseptic. In addition, its seeds are an integral part of almost all choleretic teas. Ripened seeds are used in cooking as spices.
