History

It is widely believed that the name Gorokhovets derived from the nickname Pea. But history does not report who was its bearer. The first mention in written sources dates back to 1158, but in the 11th century these lands were inhabited by numerous Slavs.

In the center of the city stood the Kremlin on the Nikolskaya Hill. On its perimeter were built powerful earthen ramparts and other fortifications of wood. These wooden structures were destroyed in the Time of Troubles. The location away from the troubled borders of the state saved Gorokhovets from attacks and destruction. It still preserves the Kremlin and the posad on the bank of the Klyazma River.

Climate

The duration of the winter in the Vladimir region is more than 4 months, it is very snowy with an average temperature of -8.5 degrees. The climate and relief contributed to the creation of ski slopes in these places. Gorokhovets is also famous for its excellent slopes. Attractions of this level will please any skier.

"Puzhalova Mountain" is the most famous ski resort. The name it came from a legend.
