Attractions Gorokhovets: where to go. Gorokhovets, sights: The house of the king of the Peas

An ancient Russian town in the Vladimir region is a real open-air museum. Describe the words cultural attractions Gorokhovets difficult, but they should be seen to at least briefly plunge into the noble life of the XVII-XVIII centuries. In this city, you must wander through the picturesque streets, look around the panorama of the city and its surroundings from the mountain, and then, going down and crossing the bridge, see the Gorokhovets reflected in the river's surface, preserving the charm of the past centuries.

Architecture of the city

Beautiful temples, ancient mansions and stone merchant houses - raisins and the main attractions of Gorokhovets. Russia retained on its territory only 20 merchant houses, and 7 of them are in this town. It is interesting that among these buildings there are no two identical. Each house has its own "status", according to which one can judge the place of its former owner in the social hierarchical ladder. Here are preserved the mansions and chambers of wealthy merchants, the houses of the merchant guild of the average hand and the simple huts of ordinary workers.

Residential buildings seemed to dissolve in temples and monasteries, built on the considerable donations of wealthy townspeople.

Churches and monasteries

Numerous churches and monasteries are by no means the main attractions in Gorokhovets, but they also deserve attention. In the central square of the city stands the Annunciation Cathedral. The majestic and strict five-domed church with a high and harmonious belfry was built with the money of merchant Ershov in the beginning of the XVIII century. The means of the same merchant had previously been built by another church - Voskresenskaya, which was the first stone church in the city. The biggest disputes between old-timers and local historians turned around the Church of All Saints, built in the Russian style at the beginning of the 20th century. Until now, opponents have not come to a common opinion, on whose means it was erected.

Three monasteries were built in Gorokhovets, built in the 16th-17th centuries. The oldest among them is the Znamensky Monastery, founded in 1568, surrounded by endless forests. And the title of the most outstanding sight of Gorokhovets belongs to the Sretensky Cathedral, located on the territory of the monastery of the same name in the south-eastern part of the main square of the city. Crowned with domes, decorated with voluminous stucco and interesting decorative elements, he involuntarily attracts admiring glances.

The house of the merchant Sapozhnikov

However, not only and not so many monasteries are famous Gorokhovets. Walking around the city will surely pass by the ancient buildings of the city land. The first building we will "visit" is the merchant house-museum of Sapozhnikov (Ershov). Three-story building rises above an ordinary one-story building. Unforgettable in appearance, it strikes with its interior decoration. On the ground floor there are spacious halls, master rooms and a reception hall for guests. On the second - the bedchamber, the interior of which was recreated with great care, here you can see and appreciate the decoration of the rooms of the wealthiest merchant of the city of that time. On the third floor in one of the rooms are interesting examples of carpentry toys, which were made from the remains of wood chips and painted with bright colors. There are secret passages in the merchants' house through which the owners could quietly leave their dwelling.

House of Morozov

Gorokhovets and its attractions are better to explore during walking, visiting the most interesting places of the city. On Lenina Street, not far from the central square of the city, there is another very beautiful one-storey wooden building, painted in light green colors - the house of the Morozovs. The building is decorated with gentle light carvings and quaint turrets, covered with scaly roofing. Now the former merchant's house is given to the children's library.

Prishletsov House

Further along the same street there is another "fairy-tale" house, in which the chairman of the Zemstvo council once lived . This is a truly magnificent structure, a real wonder of Gorokhovets. Above the entrance to the house is a square turret, covered with tiles and crowned with a spire. From its base to the ridge of the roof, triangular auditory windows, a barrel-shaped mezzanine, gradually rise, and an unusual "pot-bellied" superstructure is built above the central part of the mansion. Another "highlight" of the mansion is the window frames that decorate its windows with beautiful carvings: here in the vines and exotic flowers, birds of paradise and mermaids hid.

Shiryaev House

Architectural sights of Gorokhovets are represented not only by wooden architecture, but also by stone houses. One of the examples of stone buildings is Shiryaev's house. The merchant family, whose means at the end of the XVII century erected this estate, was not alien to European culture, which was reflected in the layout of the house, which is close to the baroque palace buildings, but at the same time, close rooms, powerful walls and decorations remain typically Russian . There is also an old porch of the house with a narrow staircase leading to the "maiden" light. In the 80s of the last century the Shiryaevs' house was restored, restoring its original forms and details.

Shorin's House

On the Nizhny Novgorod highway there is another interesting house, built in the style of Russian fairy tales, - the estate of Shorin, a large breeder and ship-owner of the early 20th century. This house is distinguished by a mixture of Russian style and modernity. The main distinguishing feature of these chambers is the turrets on the corners of the house and the wavy lines of the window openings with an unusual spreading. An unknown architect also decorated the house with carvings with numerous rosettes in the spirit of the traditions of folk artists.

The house of King of Peas

What other attractions does Gorokhovets have? The house of King Pea is located right here. Local residents skillfully beat the name of their city, creating a real fairy-tale kingdom in the former Shoriny estate (now the House of Crafts and Folk Art). Here on the throne is seated himself the king Pea, and with him is his suite and clown pea. Before the visitors of the excursion, a real play is played with stories about primordially Russian traditions, with songs, dances and jokes-jokes that create the feeling of a real holiday. The king sets riddles to his guests and treats them with pea puree.

Ski resort

The question that faces tourists when they looked around the attractions of Gorokhovets: "Where do you go to have fun?" In the warm season you can sit on the summer terraces of cafes or plunge into the holy spring, which is located in the St. Nicholas Monastery, 100 meters above the river Klyazma. It will be equally interesting to walk to another archaeological site of the region - to the Bald Mountain, where there is not a single tree. There are legends about this mountain among the locals: some say that witches and wizards flock to the mountain, who, when dancing, dance on it all the living things, others believe that the trees on the mountain do not grow, because they do not grow. In ancient times there was a pagan temple, but scientists have a more "mundane" version of the lack of vegetation - the seeds on the mountain do not give rise to strong winds that blow it all the year round.

In winter, it is worth to go to the most famous ski resort of the Vladimir region, which is located on Puzhalova Hill. There are 16 trails of varying complexity with a height difference of 70 meters and a width of 40-50 meters. Those wishing to practice in the art of bends can go to a specialized route-tubing. For less extreme guests, the resort has a toboggan run. Snowboarding lovers are waiting for a snowboard park with five dzhibbingovymi figures. An interesting lesson for every guest of the resort is Puzhalova Gora.

It is not for nothing that the attractions of Gorokhovets attract lovers of primordially Russian medieval architecture. Getting into this city, you unwittingly immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a fairy tale and antiquity, which is evoked by merchant houses and Old Russian monasteries.
