Colonel Budanov: Biography

Colonel Yuri Budanov - a serviceman of the Russian army, a participant in two Chechen wars. In 2003 he was found guilty of the murder of a young Chechen girl. Colonel Budanov was sentenced to ten years in prison. In 2009, he was released on UDO. In 2011, he was shot dead by unknown persons.

Career

Colonel Budanov was born in 1963 in the Donetsk region. He studied at the Kharkov Tank School, after which he was sent to serve in Hungary. Colonel Budanov, whose biography is quite rich in crossings, after the collapse of the Soviet Union continued to serve in the Russian troops.

Participated in the First Chechen campaign. In 1995 he was wounded in the head. In the second Chechen war, he commanded the 160th Tank Regiment. He was twice bruised in the autumn of 1999. In January 2000, Budanov became a colonel, and in March he was arrested, accusing him of raping and killing a Chechen girl.

The feat of Colonel Budanov: how it was

At the end of December 1999, in the vicinity of the village of Dubai-Yurt, 160 soldiers of the 84th Intelligence Battalion fell into the Wahhabi ambush. The scouts asked the staff for help, but they were denied this. A thousand Arab mercenaries Khattab literally destroyed the Russian soldiers with their fire.

Nearby was Budanov's tank regiment. He had an order to stand still and not get involved in the fight. The village was considered peaceful, and the authorities forbade the entry of tanks there. Budanov heard talks between scouts and the command. He decided to break the order and help the dying guys.

Budanov assembled a regiment and summoned volunteers from among the officers. Having manned them tanks, he personally led their fight. The enemy was confident that scout assistance would not come, so the sudden attack of the tankmen demoralized him. Khattab retreated, and the scouts were saved. The next morning, Chechnya was already talking about this feat. Colonel Budanov received a severe reprimand from his staff for his arbitrariness.

Court

In February 2001, hearings began on the Budanov case, which had a great public resonance. The accused claimed that the girl he killed was a sniper and killed several dozen of his soldiers in the Argun gorge.

A year later the court appointed a medical examination. In total, four psychiatric examinations were conducted. One of them showed that the colonel was in a deranged state during the murder. For this reason, the court sent him for compulsory treatment in a psychiatric clinic. But already in 2003 the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation quashed this decision and sentenced Budanov to a guilty verdict.

Sentence

The soldier was found guilty and sentenced to nine years in prison for murder by imprudence, an article on rape was removed from him. He was also added six years for kidnapping a person and five more for abuse of office. In total, the court decided to imprison Budanov for 10 years. In addition, the colonel lost his officer's rank and the Order of Courage he deserved earlier .

In 2004, Budanov filed an application for early release. It was satisfied with the meeting of the commission. However, explicit threats poured into Budanov's address, and he was forced to withdraw his petition. When the passions around this matter subsided a bit, Budanov in 2008 filed a new petition for early release. The petition was granted, and in early 2009 he left prison.

The murder of Colonel Budanov: details

On the afternoon of June 10, 2011, he was shot. Who killed Colonel Budanov? The case has not been solved yet. They shot him in Moscow, on Komsomolsky Avenue. The criminals fired six shots, four of which hit the victim's head exactly. Those who did this, did not find. Investigation authorities believe that, perhaps, this is a blood feud, which was carried out by people from Chechnya. Some of Budanov's friends insist that high-ranking officials are involved here. Anyway, but the killers could not be identified.

The funeral

Colonel Yuri Budanov, whose biography was extensive and diverse, is buried in the suburbs. They sang it in the church of the saints of Kosmos and Damian. The closed coffin with its body was taken out of the temple, carried around it, then immersed in a car. The funeral took place at Novoluzhinsky Cemetery in Khimki. Yuri Budanov will rest next to the Soviet pilots who perished during the war with the fascists.

His track record at first did not differ much from other similar ones. Colonel Budanov gradually rose on the standard officer's stairs. A sharp shift in his career occurred on the eve of the Second Chechen campaign. Lieutenant-Colonel Budanov was then commanded by a tank regiment, consisting of almost a hundred military vehicles.

Literally immediately his military unit was sent to Chechnya. There he received an extraordinary rank of colonel. One of his main achievements is that Budanov spent half of the war with virtually no losses. I lost only one driver. Such indicators were not found in any of the other commanders.

But at the same time Colonel Budanov was a quick-tempered person. He could afford to shout at his subordinates, throw everything in them that would fall under his arm. Once he heard a contract soldier point a finger at a friend who was passing by Major Arzumanyan and asked him to "shoot" a cigarette from the officer, calling him "chock". Budanov became furious and beat up an impudent soldier. Then he went to his tent, took a block of cigarettes and gave it to the contractor, explaining to him that it was impossible to call a military officer "chock".

The Colonel's lawyer said that he did not consider him a "scumbag". In his opinion, Budanov was a patriot for whom honor was of great importance. He often went against the orders of the command, if he believed that he could help his comrades or civilians by his actions. These his antics and made the colonel a lot of enemies and hidden detractors from the top command staff.

Strongly passed the nerves of Budanov, when in the Argun gorge enemy snipers killed many of his fighting comrades. He often sat for a long time in front of photographs of his late friends, swore to them that he would find these snipers and deal with them. Such a case introduced itself. One of the captured militants pointed to several houses, saying that one of them hides a sniper girl. For her, the colonel and adopted an 18-year-old Chechen woman who was killed on imprudence during interrogation.

As we already mentioned above, the examination found that at the time of the murder Budanov was in a state of temporary mental disorder, and found him insane. However, this decision was later abolished.

One way or another, Budanov was punished for his crime. Today some citizens of our country consider him a cruel tyrant and a murderer. Others believe that he is a real hero of Russia. We do not undertake to judge him and give ourselves some assessment of his actions. Time will pass, everything will fall into place.

The deceased had a wife Svetlana and two children. The son is Valery, a reserve lieutenant, a lawyer, and a schoolgirl-daughter named Catherine.
