Glossitis - treatment, symptoms, causes.

Glossitis is a disease that is characterized by an inflammatory infection of the tongue. Glossitis is a special case of stomatitis, and it is caused by a bacterial or viral infection. Although today medicine identifies several varieties of glossitis, it can be said with certainty that all of them, in the absence of proper treatment, will grow into mushroom-shaped growths on the surface of the tongue, called papillomas.

Causes of glossitis

If it is an infectious disease, it is obvious that the cause of its occurrence is any microorganism. Any, because glossitis can cause a fairly large number of different bacteria and viruses, right up to human herpes simplex.

The risk factors that can contribute to infection, that is, indirect infection of the body, include burns, smoking, various injuries of the mouth and tongue, in particular, alcohol abuse, too hot food and spicy spices.

Quite often glossitis can be caused by tooth decay or microbes living in the area of teeth, and in addition, cases of this disease after poisoning with salts of heavy metals or the use of toothpaste of questionable quality are noted.

Glossitis - symptoms of the disease

  • A feeling of discomfort in the mouth;
  • Feeling of foreign objects in your mouth;
  • Increased salivation;
  • Difficulty swallowing and chewing food;
  • Increasing the size of the tongue;
  • A pathological change in the color of the tongue;
  • Violation of taste functions;
  • Loss of taste.

Glossitis - treatment

If you have one or more of the above symptoms, then you should immediately go to the dentist, in order to conduct a complete examination of the oral cavity. The fact is that for the successful treatment of this disease it is necessary to first identify its symptoms, otherwise, the treatment of glossitis will be similar to shooting from a cannon on sparrows.

In addition, with such a disease as glossitis, the doctor's treatment develops not only in establishing the "identity" of the infectious agent and extracting the appropriate drugs, but also from eliminating possible difficulties with breathing and swallowing food that can occur unexpectedly for the patient.

In the event that you do not start treatment on time, the disease will definitely begin to progress, which will be expressed in swelling of the tongue and complication of breathing, as well as some other unpleasant complications of a disease such as glossitis.

How to treat this disease? As mentioned above, an infectious agent is first installed, and then an anti-inflammatory therapy is prescribed, drugs that locally correct the immune system or simply specific antibiotics. Also, in order to remove acute complications, in particular those associated with breathing disorders, doctors use prednisolone and hydrocortisone.

Glossitis - treatment with folk remedies

First of all, it must be said that no national recipes can guarantee you getting rid of the disease, especially if you take into account the fact that glossitis is an infectious disease. Traditional medicine can only help to get rid of the negative symptoms of the disease, but after treatment all the same, sooner or later (but it's better early) will have to go to the doctor.

Reduce inflammation possible by rinsing the mouth with a decoction of chamomile. Chamomile broth is prepared as follows - take one tablespoon and fill it with a glass of boiling water, after which it is infused under the lid for an hour and cooled to room temperature. Rinse your mouth after eating and overnight.

In most cases, the disease glossitis, whose treatment lasts a long time, can be alleviated by holding in your mouth fresh potato juice, grated and squeezed through gauze.
