Cutting the frenum in the mouth in children

The pruning of the tongue bridle is necessary for some children. This is due to the fact that this thin film has an insufficient length.

A short frenum can form as a result of several factors. The main of them include complications during childbirth, hereditary predisposition, pathology of pregnancy.

Incorrect development of the frenulum can be detected by a pediatrician or dentist in the earliest childhood, as well as a specialist neonatologist in the maternity hospital. Too small a fold does not allow the newborn to suckle properly. As a result, the baby receives less food, bad gaining weight. In such cases, the bridle is trimmed. After the procedure, the baby is immediately applied to the chest. As a shortcoming of this intervention, one can note the possible formation of a coarse rumen. This causes the need for a repeat operation in the future.

Pruning the frenulum at an early age prevents the child from incorrectly pronouncing individual sounds and letters. Typically, the need for surgery arises when the baby reaches the age of five. In doing so, it should be remembered that the operation will make it possible to perform free movements in the language, but it will not relieve the speech therapy correction of the pronunciation.

If the bridle pruning is not done on time, at a later age a short joint film can affect the growth of the lower jaw. Indications for intervention determine the dentist-orthodontist or speech therapist.

Often there is a short bridle of the upper lip. The fold fixes the attachment to the tissues of the upper jaw. Abnormal development of the bridle significantly limits the mobility of the upper lip. This, in turn, causes a lot of problems.

In the process of muscle strain of the lips (when eating or talking, for example), the bridle of the upper lip is stretched. She, in turn, pulls up the gum at the central incisors. As a rule, this phenomenon leads to a recession of the gums in the central teeth from above: the cervical teeth become bare, sensitivity increases. These are quite unpleasant complications for a child in adolescence, provoking functional and aesthetic disturbances.

Cutting the bridle of the upper lip should be done on time, otherwise an incorrect bite in the child may develop , an ugly crevice in the upper dentition may form.

Surgical intervention is performed after eruption of the central upper incisors. Otherwise, the risk of injury to the rudiments of permanent teeth is high.

It is more reasonable to cut the frenulum when the child reaches the age of five or seven. However, in the presence of evidence, this intervention can be carried out at an older age.

It should be remembered that the bridle is not only a mucosa, but also a fibrous cord, which does not have elasticity. In this regard, stretching the fold yourself is useless. In most cases, self-sustaining activities only accelerate the manifestation of complications.

The pruning of the frenum is performed using local anesthesia, so the procedure for the patient is painless. For the operation, special medical scissors are used. After dissecting the folds, seams are superimposed. They subsequently resolve themselves.

After the intervention, the doctor's advice should be followed. For the healing period of the wound from the diet, rigid food should be excluded. It is also recommended to limit conversations.

The operation in adulthood has some difficulties. This is due to the filling of the bridle with blood vessels.
