The athlete was born on January 31, 1987 in the city of Leningrad (St. Petersburg, Russia). Since childhood he was a mobile child. At the age of seven, the parents took the boy to the football section, which was called "Smena". There he actively trained and was the leader in his youth team. Maxim's love for football was his father - Vladimir Konstantinovich. He was the coach of the children's football team in Pestovo, where the Vasiliev family used to live.

Soon talents of the budding football player were noticed by the coaches. At first, Maxim played for the KFK for the Zenit Sports School, which Denis Ugarov coached. And then he was invited to the Rostov SKA, which was headed by the famous trainer Arsen Naidenov.
