Igor Dmitrievich was born in a simple family of a miner in the Voroshilovgrad region on April 20 in 1938. With the newborn son, the parents move to Makeyevka (now Donetsk region, Ukraine).

In 1955, the future Marshal of the Russian Federation graduated with a gold medal and entered the Moscow State University. But from childhood he dreamed of becoming a sailor. After collecting the documents, he moved to Leningrad to enter the naval school. When Igor Dmitrievich was in the second year, the profile of his faculty was changed to engineering and transferred to Sevastopol. In 1960, he received a diploma (specialty "Control Systems for Missile Equipment") and continued his military service in the missile forces.

Last days

Igor Dmitrievich liked to perform in front of the honors pupils of Nakhimov and Suvorov schools, which they collected for the delivery of nominal scholarships. In August 2006, he spoke to them for the last time. Then already he was very sick, moved with difficulty and spoke only in a whisper.
