Fat egg size by weeks: dynamics of pregnancy development

Nowadays, there are two main methods with which to diagnose pregnancy in the early stages and monitor its development. So, from the first days of the delay, you can pass a special analysis that determines the level of hCG (this can be a normal pregnancy test or a laboratory test ). If at home you can only confirm or deny the fact of fertilization and implantation of the egg, then in a medical institution you can even with a certain accuracy say the time. In addition, this analysis in dynamics can show whether pregnancy is normal, whether the embryo has stopped in development.

No less reliable is the conduct of ultrasound: it can be used to find out whether there is a threat of spontaneous abortion, whether the baby is developing normally, and to establish the size of the fetal egg by weeks. Multiple studies over a long period of time made it possible to learn about what diameter it should be (based on length and width measurements) during the first trimester.

Usually you can see the pregnancy on ultrasound not earlier than 5-7 days after the delay of the monthly. At this time, the fetal egg occupies somewhere ¼ of the volume of the uterine cavity, and it is already impossible to notice it. But the embryo at this time is almost not visible: its length does not exceed 1.5 mm. The size of the fetal egg, which is already 5 weeks old, is about 18 mm. True, at this time, an inaccurate size determination is possible, but the error is always small.

Despite the fact that until a week-long delay using ultrasound, it is very rare to detect a fertilized egg, there is a scientific literature on the diameter of the fertilized egg. So, on the day of the estimated monthly size of the fetal egg (4 weeks of pregnancy) is 11 mm. But the baby is at this moment no more than 0.5 mm. It is almost impossible to find it even with the help of the most modern equipment.

Because of the errors in determining the size of ultrasound (especially if it will be done by different specialists), many recommend not checking the size of the fetal egg by weeks, and taking the test for hCG. Of course, by the end of the first trimester the growth dynamics of this hormone is changing, so this research becomes uninformative. But at this time, using ultrasound diagnostics, you can not only determine the fact of having a pregnancy, find out the size of the fetal egg by weeks, see the embryo, but also listen to his heartbeat. This can be done after 17-20 days after the delay. At this time, the diameter of the fetal egg is about 25 mm, it occupies about 1/3 of the inner volume of the uterus.

The longer the gestation period, the more detailed the future child can be, since it grows with each passing day. At 10 weeks the fetal egg already completely occupies the entire uterine cavity, and the child clearly visualizes the head, trunk and limbs.

Often, expectant moms will not be interested in the size of the fetal egg for weeks in order to correlate them with the results of their ultrasound studies, they just want to know how their baby grows and develops. They are interested in everything: for how long does it form separate parts of the body, when its movements become noticeable, what can it do and, of course, what size is it?
