The history of St. George's ribbon dates back to the times of the Empress Catherine II. It was she who founded the Order of St. George, the order ribbon to which the bicolor (bicolor) served. These colors designate, according to one interpretation, the smoke and the flame of battles (black and gold). Another version says that they are taken in honor of the state symbol, because the black double-headed eagle on a gold background has long served as the emblem of the Russian Empire. But whatever it was in reality, it was since then that the black and orange colors of the ribbon became symbols of military glory and courage in our country. The Order of St. George was awarded for showing courage and heroism. In those days there was no question of how to tie a ribbon of St. George, because it was a reward.

Then there was a big temporary break, since in the first years of Soviet power all previous orders and medals were canceled. In the Soviet Army, the ribbon reappeared during the Great Patriotic War as a sign of distinction on the banners of the guards units. And the ribbon itself wrapped around the block of the Order of Glory. And then, too, there was no question of how to tie a St. George ribbon.

Today, the wearing of St. George's ribbon symbolizes the memory and respect for the feat of all those who stopped fascism. But it is difficult to find a family that would not be affected in any way by that terrible misfortune. And even if grandfathers and great-grandfathers did not fight at the front, grandmothers and great-grandmothers certainly were workers of the rear, providing Victory, and this work is comparable with the military feat. And it's not about the ancestors.
