Disease of myopathy - what is it?

Many have heard of a disease such as myopathy. What is it, knows not everyone. The term "myopathy" combines a number of hereditary diseases, in which the contractile capacity of muscle fibers is broken and muscle weakness develops. As a result, there is a decrease in the volume of active movements, a decrease in tone, atrophy, and in some cases, pseudohypertrophy of muscles. Also, all pathologies of the muscles of the skeleton are understood as myopathy. Most often this disease has a hereditary nature, but it can also develop as a result of injuries or infections. Representatives of the male sex are more susceptible to myopathy.

The most severe and most known form of the disease is Duchenne's myopathy. It is characterized by a hereditary defect of dystrophin, a protein that maintains the integrity of the muscle fibers. With this form of the disease there is a complete absence of it.

Myopathy: symptoms of the disease

The main sign of the disease is a pronounced muscle weakness. Sometimes there can be a substitution of muscle fibers with fat tissue, which leads to their hypertrophy. They become thickened, and to the touch they are firm and elastic. For patients with myopathy, gait waddles are characteristic. As a rule, weakness increases by 8-10 years. It becomes difficult for children to walk, and by the age of 12 this ability is completely lost. During this period, scoliosis, contractures of joints begin to form , which increase with decreasing activity. Some patients are diagnosed with delayed development of the psyche, in later stages, heart failure may occur . People with this diagnosis live on average about 20 years. The main cause of death is cardiac and respiratory failure.

Myopathy: treatment of the disease

Therapy of the disease is directed, first of all, to the establishment of metabolism and microcirculation in the muscular and nervous systems. For this purpose, anabolic agents, vitamins, potassium preparations, biogenic stimulants, trophotropic drugs, anticholinesterase agents, vasoactive drugs are used.

Also, with miopathy, a whole body massage is very useful. Thanks to this procedure, blood circulation is stimulated, blood stasis is eliminated, blood supply of muscles is increased. In addition, a positive effect is due to physical exercises, rubbing, hot baths with sea salt.
