"Deportivo La Coruña". History of the football club

"Deportivo La Coruña" - a football club, performing in the championship of Spain. The city in which the team is located is La Coruña.

History of foundation

The club was founded in 1906. The first president of the team was Luis Cornide. Officially, "Deportivo" was registered a year later. In those years the club played in the old stadium, and the team needed to move to a new place. This stadium was "Viejo Riasor".

In 1920, the Spanish national team was able to perform very successfully at the Olympic Games, which contributed to the rapid development of football in the country. In Spain, they decided to hold a national championship in 1928. Until now, "Deportivo La Coruna" held friendly meetings with teams of his and neighboring countries.

To play in the championship "Deportivo" was only in the second division. The first season the team finished in eighth place out of ten. The first decent victory happened in 1932 over the Madrid "Real" in the Cup of the country. The long-awaited exit to the first league took place only in 1941. The club had a very difficult financial situation. To pay a reward to footballers the size of twenty euros had to collect donations.

Games in the first division "Deportivo La Coruna" showed quite acceptable and immediately took the fourth place in the championship. The unsuccessful season was 1944-1945: the team went back to the second league. Then followed the fall and rise. Only in 1950 the team was able to climb to second place in the first division. The club began to come to foreign players who provided a fairly strong game. Showing good results in the second league, "Deportivo" could not resist the first. The team, because of its poor funding, could not invite and retain experienced players.

Hard times

Especially "Deportivo La Coruña" felt the problem in 1973. The team again went to the second division and was on the verge of relegation to the very bottom of the Spanish championship. This situation was also bad for the club's income. Debts "Deportivo" constantly grew.

In the 80's the team spent the seasons mainly in the second division, only occasionally rising up. The tragedy could have happened in 1988. The team was saved by the victory over "Racing", which stopped their fall down and saved from possible disappearance.

The turning point was the election of the new president - Augusto Cesar Lendoyro. By that time, the club's debts had grown to four million euros. The new president solved problems with knowledge of the matter. Although the club still could not get back on its feet, the first successes were visible to the naked eye. Debts were gradually repaid, new players were acquired.

The 90s

This period was a turning point in the history of the team. In the first season she miraculously managed to stay in the first division. In the following season, the football club "Deportivo La Coruña" for the first time in history was able to secure participation in the UEFA Cup. Fans of the season remember the defeat in the race for the championship at the last minute of the season.

1995 brought the club the first serious award - the Cup of Spain. Then the players were able to win the Super Bowl.

Particularly successful was the season 1999-2000. The last rounds of the championship were very tense, many of them doubted until recently that the team would be able to keep the first line. In May, everything was decided - for the first time since the day of its foundation, the champion of the country was Deportivo La Coruña. Spain and the team's fans took to the streets and celebrated this achievement.

Nowadays

After the championship, "Deportivo" twice in a row could take second place in the championship of the country. In other competitions, the team also did well. The situation began to deteriorate in 2005. The team began to take places below the top five, and in 2012, and did fly out to the second league. After 2010, the club began to alternate the ups and downs in the country's divisions.
