Deformed arthrosis, causes and treatment

Deformed arthrosis (osteoarthritis) refers to diseases of the osteoarticular apparatus, which affects almost 15% of the population, and the number of cases increases with age. Osteoarthritis can occur in any joint, but most often suffer those who are more likely to be stressed.

Arthritis and arthrosis are not the same thing

Arthrosis is called gradual articular age deformity (over the age of 45 years). Arthritis is inflammatory, it often develops at a young age.

Women and men have the same risk of getting arthrosis, but deformed arthrosis of small joints is more common in older women. In children and adolescents, the disease sometimes appears on the injured joint.

Causes of osteoarthritis

A degenerative change in articular cartilage is influenced by a whole complex of various factors. Depending on the causes of development, deformed arthrosis can be primary and secondary.

Idiopathic (primary) osteoarthritis develops for no apparent reason. It is believed that here the main role belongs to the hereditary factor, in which the development of cartilage components, its membranes and structures is disturbed.

Secondary osteoarthritis is characterized by a primary lesion of one, two or more joints.

The reasons for its development are as follows:

  • Mechanical injuries, that is, injuries to the joints or intraarticular bones, leading to a disruption in their structure. Important is long-term microtraumatism and a constant load on the hands and feet, for example, in athletes. Sometimes skeletal anomalies cause the load on the bone to be unevenly distributed, as a result of which the articular surfaces are heavily loaded and gradually destroyed.
  • Inflammatory diseases of the joints (arthritis), hemarthrosis, aseptic necrosis of the bone.
  • An abnormal metabolism in which deformed arthrosis occurs as a complication of diseases such as gout, hemochromatosis, rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis.
  • Disorders in the endocrine system.
  • Poor blood supply of joint tissues (varicose veins, atherosclerosis, obliterating endarteritis).

Symptoms of the disease

Initially, patients complain of a crunch in the joint, mild and aching pain.

Perhaps the emergence of "starting pain", when the pain is observed at the beginning of the movement, and then decreases or disappears. As arthrosis develops, painful sensations appear when the joint is loaded, gradually becoming permanent. The patient complains of lameness, stiffness of movements, difficulty when climbing up the stairs.

Deforming arthritis, whose treatment is especially important today is an inflammatory disease, so it is important to determine the root cause. The means of treatment depend on this. It can be analgesics, antibacterial or anti-inflammatory drugs. Effective also physiotherapy, exercise therapy.

Deforming arthrosis, treatment

Scheme of therapeutic measures is determined by a doctor or a group of doctors, which should be addressed immediately if there are infrequent and minor pains in the joint. Usually they approach the disease in a complex way. Treatment consists of the use of chondroprotectors, medical procedures and massages.
