D-243 - engine that was tested by time

The most popular Belarusian car, of course, is the MTZ tractor. But in all the countries of the post-Soviet space, the products of the Minsk motor plant are highly valued, which gave mankind the D-243 - an engine that is distinguished by its power, reliability, unpretentiousness and universality.

Diesel engine D-243

D-243 - the engine, which is a diesel power plant with in-line arrangement of cylinders (the engine has four cylinders in total). To control the speed of the crankshaft, a mechanical regulator is used. Cooling is traditionally liquid, without boost. Most of the popularity due to its unpretentiousness earned the engine D-243. The engine is capable of operating on low-quality fuel at an ambient temperature of +44 to -44 degrees Celsius.

The main purpose of powertrains - installation on tractors with a thrust class of 14-20 kN. Most often they are equipped with agricultural or industrial machinery, as well as forestry machinery.

But often the structure of highly specialized machines (power plants of AD series, diesel drives PD and pumping units) also includes D-243 units. The engines must be provided with the same condition - operate on the territory with unlimited air exchange.

Specifications

The D-243 is the engine recommended to be installed on MTZ-82 and MTZ-80 tractors, and it should additionally be supplemented with some elements of electrical equipment, control sensors, oil and water radiators. Only in this case it realizes the D-243 engine, the characteristics of which are presented below, all its capabilities.

1. The method of forming the mixture is direct fuel injection.
2. The number of working cylinders is four, a row arrangement.
3. The cylinder capacity is 4.75 liters.
4. The working power is 59.6 kW.
5. The maximum torque is 258 N * m.
6. The compression ratio is 16 units.
7. Full weight of 430 kg.

In this case, the crankshaft can only rotate at idle speed with a frequency of 2380 rpm, because it is limited by the regulator.

Performance indicators

In addition to technical characteristics, and performance indicators characterize the installation of D-243. The engine produces the following specifications during operation:

• Fuel consumption when operating at 100% power and at a speed of 1500 rpm - 220 g / kW * h;
• Consumption of engine oil for "combustion" - 0.9 g / kW * h; At 100% load - no more than 0.2 liters per hour;
• Type of used motor oil - CI-4 class according to АР'I or E3-96, 4-99, 5-02 class according to AS'ЕА;
• Type of antifreeze - low-freezing coolant "TC-40" or "TC-65".

The engines are started either by an electric starter or by a pre-start power plant. In the latter case, the letter "L" is added to the name. Depending on the purpose of the tractor, on which the motor is installed, the unit can be equipped with additional equipment - pneumatic compressors, clutch disc assemblies and other units. This must be taken into account when performing maintenance, and then the D-243 engine does not require repair.
